dare I belong
inside this dream
that speaks
longer than shadows lingered
I yearn to touch your sky,
higher than vows
can reach
I call to you
forgemenots
dive into smiles.

can they still fly
in rainbow yarn
have you woven all diamonds
last sunset
torn
and gone
come to seek springtime soul
embrace
what could have been
not gone
waiting for loving words
one time too many
one heart ago?

clouds whisper of return
garden of sunny thoughts
flower your love
as amber dreams step forward
you choose
you hear
sing your hope

your soul
close to my own.

The Fish Song
The room didn’t smell like disinfectants. Its fragrance seemed light and not overbearing. A soft mixture of lavender and mint permeated the space. No beeping machines or any tubes hooked up to four-year-old Kaleeka. Her cacao skin seemed to glow from the light over her head. The family, save for one and the doctors and nurses exited the room like a trail of saints showing their last vestiges of regard.
