A Poet's letter to a Priest
"Don't they know that you are mortal too...let them know that you pray in the cold dark as well."
Oh you blessed leaders,
who pierce the eye of evil,
a demigod in disguise.
Harken to these words,
and let them drip into your mouths,
like sticky honey
from your amber chalice.
Don't they know,
that you are mortal too?
Oh yes,
don't they know?
You carry the tears of sorrow,
the upsets of confession,
the praises of worship
and the hopes of billions of dreamers
on your ancient minded backs.
But don't they know
that you are mortal too?
Perception is an smart spirit,
he choses who to strike and who to dress.
He gives you
an warm lamp that burns bright,
leading billions of moths
from the black void
towards you.
But, may perception learn,
that you can carry mortality over your immortal duty.
Never discontent yourselves,
oh wise ones,
and let them know,
that you pray in the cold dark
as well.
