A Poem About Leaves

Even the leaves have self-esteem...

I love the way the leaves dance around the garden.

The garden awaits their yearly arrival, like an empty dance floor anticipates its footfall.

At first a flutter now and again, hoping no one’s watching.

Eventually soaring through the air seeming so purposeful. Hand-in-hand with the wind.

Once they belonged to a family. Sharing water, sunlight and food.

Yet each one has taken a different path in life.

Now they dance alone.

Careless and free.

Or in fact are they — like me — lost with no direction and identity?
