A New Chapter
A micro-collection by A. K. Jones

we far too often
fear the idea
of starting anew
having become so
comfortable
with tolerating a
mediocre life
rather than dealing
with a smidgen of
agony
to forever escape
purgatory
~what a shame
here we are
here we stand
are you going
to leap with me
or release my hand
~chances
the wind rustles my feathers
I am cold yet unafraid
I am still
yet
I move mountains
I keep my beak shut
yet screech a thousand melodies
I am a raven
a contradiction
dark and mysterious
light and open
~deafening
I don’t want to be ordinary
I don’t care to be trapped in a routine
I want to be a reckless bird
spreading my outrageous wings
and soaring above the cage that is
normality
~starling
inspirational
