My precious one, before you sleep
With heavy heart, with sorrow deep
I’ll sing a final lullaby
Your tears my tears, your eyes my eyes
‘O’ to breach a summer sky
To ride the wings of butterflies
O’ to catch a shooting star
To climb the great Olympus Mars
To capture moonbeams in a jar
From galaxies that float afar
This endless night will pass unseen
As angels lull you into dreams’ ...
Alas, sweet child, the skies bleed red
A melting moon weeps overhead
A billion souls with arms outstretched
Have turned to dust before their death
Nirvana waits beyond mankind
Where love and peace are intertwined
No heaven blooms in darkened rooms
Where COVID looms an endless doom
This world may never be the same
Caged in fear and bathed in blame
Yet, hopeful hearts in league with peace
Will comfort those without belief
Tonight as children beckon dreams
As tyrants scheme their evil schemes
And wealthy grieve the ‘status quo’
The roofless shiver in the snow ...
