A Father's Love
Turning Distractions into Memories
Determined to do some work, I retreated downstairs for some peace.
I hoped to avoid the distraction of noise, and spend time alone with my thoughts.
Sitting at my desk, however, I heard some muffled peeps.
The children had found my retreat underground; I knew that I’d been caught.
Radiant little whispers echoed through the door,
And I heard my children hatch a plan to try to sneak inside.
Caught, I set aside my work, I could resist no more,
The chance to nest beneath my desk, and there to crouch and hide.
I saw my children enter, but they did not see me.
Over the desk I bounded with zest, and the children squealed with glee!
Never regret the time you invest creating sweet memories.

Hi RM ~ Coincidentally as you were 'Whistling' over to my Short I've been scrolling through your lovely presentations. You are such a 'Mensch' ~ Such "Sweet Memories" **I've subscribed to you with pleasure. This piece touched my heart since I just wrote my 'Dear Dad' story with memories from long ago that always 'Schtick" ~ and I see you are a loving Father with pride ~ But don't know if they have 'Fathers Day' where you are? Oh, where are you? RM - I'm just a retired lifetime highly scrutinized legal Biz writer - morphed into a 'Goof-Writer,' nothing more - I don't know if your Gen can relate to some of my ever sarcastic shorts - I hope so - Jay Jay Kantor, Chatsworth, California 'Senior' Vocal Author - Vocal Author Community -
amazing sir. keep it up
So lovely! Your poem gave me a glimpse into this sweet family’s life and left me smiling at the antics of the children and the father. Dads who take time are such special creatures. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece!
Reminds me of a time when my mom would play with me and my siblings to get ready for church and we would hide in the closet. Brings back so many joyful memories :)
Lucky, to have a parent so playful and willing to set aside other things to be silly with them! 😁
👏🏼 So descriptive. You’re amazingly gifted.
