A collection of somewhat serious poems and some not so serious

On a Date

He went on a date.

It must have been fate,

that he wound up late.

Which is not very great,

if you’re looking to mate.

Hideous

The creature’s face was hideous.

His motivations were insidious.

He frightened everyone he found

who lived in that small town.

He made them all run away,

then by himself, he could stay.

Wild

They knew she was wild.

Ever since she was a child.

She had never been tame,

so she got all of the blame

when something went wrong.

Yet she always stayed strong.

Trouble

Why is it always so rare

for people to properly prepare?

When they know that trouble

will come and burst their bubble.

Mailbox

I eagerly sent in my entry to the

people who run the Publishers

Clearinghouse sweepstakes.

And after a while, I checked my

mailbox every day for the

notification that I was a winner.

But after checking and checking

and not becoming a winner,

I realized that all I had done

was make myself a big loser.

Hurtful

It’s hard to make the pain go

away when someone hurts you

with vicious words that dwell

in your consciousness for what

seems to you like an eternity.

That’s the effect of hurtful words.

Not Easy

Life is never easy but why

should we expect that when

nearly everything about it will

challenge us from birth to death.

Dead or Alive?

The space explorers came across

a new life form and after checking

it with all of their instruments,

determined the creature was

dead. They transported it back to

their ship and began their long

journey home. They didn’t get

very far before the beast woke up,

attacked the crew ferociously,

and then ate them all one by one.

Sequel

Saw the movie “Bad Boys For

Life” but came away feeling

that Will Smith is going to

make bad sequels for life.

A Sign

If you are looking for a sign

to give direction to your life,

consider the humble STOP sign.

It’s telling you to stop and reflect.

Some Things

Some things are disturbing.

Some things are perturbing.

Some things are aggravating.

Some things are nauseating.

Yet, no matter all of this,

some things are pure bliss.

Snake

It’s never wise to hit a snake

with a big stick or a rake.

All you’ll do is make it mad,

and, of that, you won’t be glad.

Music

Listening to great music

does more than entertain you.

It nourishes the soul and

is acoustic heaven on earth.

Toys

Children create a magical world

playing with such innocent joy.

But then they grow up and begin

playing with very dangerous toys.

Octopus on a Bus

An octopus got on board a bus.

The poor thing made quite a fuss.

The bus driver was not amused.

The passengers were confused.

But even though they resisted,

the octopus still persisted,

knowing he wouldn’t be defeated

in getting all of his legs seated.
