Birds are beautiful in the wild, and they're incredibly cute, but they are not good pets because they require so much care.
Parrots
Parrots are colorful, quite intelligent, highly sociable, and long-lived creatures. Different parrot species vary largely in characteristics such as color, weight, and habits. There are close to 400 parrot species around the globe, but sadly, many of them have become endangered.
Parrots talk by modifying the air that flows over the syrinx to make sounds. Parrots are particularly good at imitating human words and sounds.
Parrots are very good mimics and can copy sounds that they hear in their environment; they can even copy human words and laughter.
A wild parrots' sleep pattern is that they go to roost just before sunset and wake at dawn. This means they live a 24-hour cycle of 12 hours sleeping, and 12 hours awake. A few species live further away from equatorial regions and even fewer in temperate areas. However, parrots' sleep patterns can be modified.
Parrots lifespan may vary, like Cockatoos: 40 to 60 years, Kākāpō: 40 to 80 years, Hyacinth macaw: about 50 years.
Ostrich
Ostrich are large flightless birds, which lays the largest eggs of any living land animal. With the ability to run at 70 km/h (43.5 mph), they are the fastest birds on land.
Contrary to popular belief and myth, ostriches do not stick or bury their heads in the sand when threatened. They just lay their necks and head flat on the ground. Myths about ostriches having multiple hearts are also false. They have one heart.
The flightless ostrich is also known as the world's largest bird. Ostriches have three stomachs. Unlike all other living birds, the ostrich secretes urine separately from faeces. Ostriches are the fast runners of any birds or other two-legged animal and can sprint at over 70 km/hr, covering up to 5m in a single stride.
Due to their large size and powerful legs, ostriches have few natural predators. The main predators of the ostrich are cheetahs, lions, hyenas and crocodiles. Ostriches live up to 45 years in the wild.
They have long legs and a long neck that protrudes from a round body. They are friendly entities, and they will not attack you if you attack them, instead they will run around for 2 seconds, and then bury their head into the ground. They are also very territorial and aggressive animals.
They have no teeth, Although they eats mostly roots, flowers and fruits, it may also take insects, lizards and small tortoises. It shares the open plains and woodlands with animals such as wildebeest and zebra.
Hummingbird
They are small birds, with most species measuring 7.5–13 cm in length, and having lifespan of 3 to 5 years, their speed is about 98 km/h.
Hummingbirds are the smallest species of bird, mostly feed on insects, spiders and insect eggs. The birds are are known as hummingbirds because the sound of the humming by their beating wings.
They've got the Moves. No other birds can fly like hummingbirds. They can fly forward, backward, and even upside down! Hummingbirds are also the only vertebrae capable of hovering for a period of time during flight.
However, they generally lay two eggs, one at a time, spaced one to two days apart. Unlike the many birds that share incubation duties between male and female, hummingbird females are almost always solely responsible for this task.
They have a long, needle-like beak perfect for reaching into flowers for nectar. Their main diet consists of this nectar from various flowers as well as small insects like aphids, beetles, and mosquitos. A hummingbird can consume insects and nectar in half their body weight every 10 to 15 minutes.
Peacock
Peacocks can (sort of) fly – they tend to run and take several small leaps before a big final hop. They can't stay airborne for very long, but their huge wingspan allows them to flutter quite far.
Peacocks like to roost in high places, like roofs or trees.
A peacock is the male of the peafowl.
These tail feathers, or coverts, spread out in a distinctive train that is more than 60 percent of the bird's total body length and boast colorful "eye" markings of blue, gold, red, and other hues. The large train is used in mating rituals and courtship displays.
In 1963, the peafowl was declared the national bird of India because of its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions. Hindus consider this bird to be sacred because the god Kartikeya rides on its back. In Greek mythology, the peacock's ornate train became a famous tail!
Peacocks cannot swim. The peacocks do not have the webbed feet required of birds to be capable of our favourite activity- swimming! With the beautiful blues and greens on their feather you would think they were meant for the water though!. The peacock's feathers make up 60% of its body length.
Dove
The cool thing about doves is that they live all over the world, with the exception of Antarctica. They are pretty hardy birds and can live in desert areas, tropical forests, mountains, and woodlands. Doves eat mainly insects, seeds, nuts, and fruits but in areas where people feed them, they will eat almost anything.
They are incredibly docile creatures with affectionate personalities. These creatures are often seen as birds of peace, depicting gentleness and love. Owning them is much the same—they tend to be gentle, warm birds with a shy demeanor. Doves can warm up to people, especially if they are hand-fed.
They are pure, white, humble and their sight is calming and beautiful. They have connected themselves with humanity through their innocence. The bird gives us a sense of freedom and is the universal symbol of peace, humanity, and love.
These are kept as pets all over the world. Although some species are not well-suited as pets, requiring advanced management with large and precise environments, other dove species are very well-suited as companion pets. Ringnecks and diamond doves can be kept as pets in a variety of ways.
