What Am I Willing To Struggle For?

Hard Truths We Need To Tell Ourselves

Undoubtedly, we have turned out to become a very narcissistic, flashy society that is all about material possessions. Social media just further expanded on this notion, or maybe took a pejorative route, it better enhanced us to compete with each other about who has the perfect life, and how one person feeds off of someone else's misery to feel better about themselves. And no, I do not think I am exaggerating here. At all.

The United States of America was founded upon the principles of individualism and personal freedom, and the American Dream always bombinated with rhapsodize that to live the dream, you had to own a house. A house is the beacon of ultimate security, it is our shelter from the cold world, it our memories, it is our joys and pains, and it is our safe space. This is what millions of immigrants were seeking away from tyrannical Europe, and what our founding fathers promoted for the US.

Long gone are the days where life was this simple. We went from, buy a home, get married, have kids, repeat, to buy a home, get married, have kids, save money for kids college, repeat, TO live in your parents house or share your apartment with 3 other strangers, nobody really gets married because people have become a commodity and everyone is now disposable, leave alone the fact that we have become debilitated in basic communication so how do we talk to our partners if we are busy acting awkward, and, wait what, kids?? Hahaha, yeah right, more than a dream now this has become the American Illusion, because how can I save money for my kids college funds if I am in my 40s and still haven't finished paying mine, that is, if I have kids at all.

As you can see, struggle seems to be the only guarantee in this world, and if we do not have our facts straight together and if we do not strategize and plan, the system will do it for us. If there is anybody out there, bold enough to still dream, have ambitions and to push forward past society's expectations of us, what are you willing to struggle for? The above mentioned struggles will be there regardless, but IF you wanna add extras to your life, be prepared, because your plate will become a lot bigger with issues coming left and right. Ambitions and Dreams have a hefty cost. Sometimes financial, sometimes emotional, often times though, both. So that's when I realized, if pain and struggle is the only constant, then at least, let me pick and choose what I wanna struggle for. I'm sorry but, good things DO NOT come to those who wait. Good things come to those who work for them, and that "waiting" should be interpreted as proactive work until your reward is actualized. And if you are lucky, your reward will be what you wanted and aimed for, but chances are, that even that might not come into your hands the way you wished it would.

Unfortunately, we now are substantially distracted with tools that serve us no good. As if life were not hard enough to pinpoint in nature, I need to walk out the street now and be "placed and profiled" on some social status by people that I do not admire or otherwise wouldn't give a second glance to, yet, these people that hate themselves, convey that same feeling to you. Check your social media, and I am baffled by the amount of daily crap we are sold, it feels more like a circus and you just shouted your animals, ok, it's showtime, rather than connecting and keeping up with Amber and Justin, you know, my bestfriends. This is how you start a vicious cycle and remain permanently and fatally entangled.

Choose your struggles, and how willing are you to fight for what you want? Remember, those that surround you, are not necessarily going the same way as you. The quality of people you choose to surround yourself with, matters. Tell me who your friends are, and I'll tell you your future.
