Podcast #4 – Bailey Jones

This week we had the pleasure of having Bailey Jones as our guest. Bailey is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). She is currently employed as the Assistant Director of Performance Nutrition at Indiana University where she manages the nutritional needs of over 300 student athletes. Our interview with her focused on the Health and Professional areas of wellness with some of the major insights being:

• Distinguishing the differences between Dietician and Nutritionist in terms of training and education

• Defining food sensitivity, food intolerance, and food allergy and discussing the best avenues of diagnosis.

• Which supplements she would most recommend and their benefits

• Idnetifying the various types of intermittent fasting and their respective advantages

• Her biggest success story as a Dietician

Austin’s Week

Books I’ve Been Reading –

“The Self-Love Experiment” by Shannon Kaiser. The most impactful insight I’ve gained from reading this is to not focus on the outcome of a situation, but to enjoy the journey itself. There have been too many times where I’ve set high expectations for myself and would feel guilty or ashamed when I did not meet my goals. Even when I did achieve them, I was often disappointed because I didn’t feel as fulfilled as I had expected I would feel once I had accomplished my goal. I’ve come to realize that my goal setting was coming from a place of unfulfilment and unconsciously believing there is not enough happiness here and now.

Change of Mind –

I read an article this week by John Hopkins Medicine which details multiple studies that show taking a multivitamin does not decrease one’s chances of heart attacks, cancer, or mental decline. I was amazed by this discovery as I have always thought that taking a multivitamin would cover my needed micro nutrition. Learning this has led me to raise the questions:

1. How can we be sure we are getting our necessary micro nutrient intake?

2. Are all multi-vitamins created equal?

Three Impactful Lessons I’ve Learned –

1. The amazing benefits of cherry tart uice! Thanks to our guest this week, Bailey, we now have a new supplement to try that can improve strength and quality of sleep in addition to reducing inflammation. (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-tart-cherry-juice-benefits#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6)

2. Passion is driven by our why, not our expectations or results.

3. Instagram is now censoring sex education accounts: (https://www.vice.com/en/article/y3g58m/instagram-rules-censoring-sex-educators)

My New Year’s Resolutions –

This year I decided to switch things up for my resolutions; instead of of choosing distant goals, I am focusing on intentions that can guide me in my journey. I chose to do this because my past future goals were causing a “what’s next” metaility in which I would be living in an expection of what’s to come next after finishing my current goal. I chose to change the mindest of my goals from a “going to” to a “coming from”. In doing so I am able to find joy in the present moment and enter a state of being; I can be here in the now with myself and my emotions.

These intentions were created from a “Seeing” exercise by simply writing what is seen in front of you (dreams, passion, emotions, etc.). Some of mine include:

• Be the change for how people be, love, and live

• Have an entity that reflects my journey of selflove expanding into every area of wellness

• Be a speaker and a coach that walks seekers to their door

• Be a writer that is fueled by passion and guided by intuition

• Be in a place of stillness, tranquility, trust, health, and wealth in the present moment - Mind, Body, Spirit
