10 Self Care Activities that Anyone Can Do

Self care is the single most important thing that most of us overlook from day to day. As a stay-at-home mom, I cannot tell you how many of my days left me worse than when they found me. I have devised a list of simple things that literally anyone, even the busiest person on the planet, could accomplish to make them feel better.

1) Reading is one of the fundamental basic things in our lives, but we take it for granted sometimes. Reading an article, magazine, or book can transcend your life; even if it’s just for ten minutes. Enjoying that time will make the day much easier to deal with

2) Walking is a fairly stress-free exercise and it is good for the body and mind. I mean a longer distance than from the refrigerator to the couch, but just get moving. That first step is usually the most daunting.

3) Slowing down in your everyday life. We seem to be perpetually running late from one thing or another, and that is so stressful. Your whole day is thrown out of whack after that first slip of time. Take a few minutes and set a schedule so that you know when you need to get things done and when you can take it a little easier to completion.

4) Talking with a friend is the cheapest therapy that you can get. Having someone to vent to, or more importantly, someone who will understand and help with the situation, is a tremendous resource.

5) Be intentional about why you are doing things and how you are doing them. Spending time and energy into something that in the long run won’t be worth it is self-sabotaging and you should stop it now.

6) Bathe. It really is that simple. Get in the shower, or bath if you prefer, and scrub yourself physically clean. And truly pamper yourself with some amazing body lotion.

7) Clean your space. This doesn’t matter if it is a room, apartment, or a car. Clean it up and and wash it. Take pride in what gets you from one point to another because we spend a lot of our lives behind those wheels.

8) De-clutter or minimize the material objects that you have. This seems like such a huge task to some people, but it will absolutely be worth every drop of sweat equity that you put into it.

9) Sing along to the breakup song. Sing along to the hopeful ones. Sing along to whatever music you enjoy no matter what message it has. Some people have very eclectic tastes in music, so no worries if you go from Eminem to Frozen.

10) Keep a journal about your days and the situations you found yourself in that did you no favors. Write it all down and take a look at it at the end of the week. Self-evaluation is key because only you know how to make yourself happy.

Self care is so simple. You do not have to spend lots of money to put yourself in a better mood. And I can almost guarantee that everyone around you will not only see the difference, but be able to appreciate you more for it as well!
