Welcome to the Master Mind Series, this series is dedicated to providing bite-size information and mind stimulation.

"Mind, body, soul."

These words, this order, we hear it frequently. This series is dedicated to establishing a clear image of what the mind is and how to use it.

So before we can understand how to use the mind, we must understand what the mind is. Contrary to popular belief, the mind is not the brain. The mind is the most powerful tool you and I have. The mind is intangible, it works directly with the laws of the universe. (Keep posted for my articles on the laws of the universe.) The mind can be made up of two sections, the conscious and the subconscious. The mind produces thoughts in the form of pictures. So in order to understand the mind, we have to create an image of what the mind is. For simplicity, let's imagine a circle with a line directly across the center. The top half is the conscious mind, the bottom is the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is the intellectual mind, the subconscious mind is the emotional mind. The mind can be compared to a program. It is the basis in which we operate our day-to-day life.

It is said that we operate 5% of the time in the conscious mind, and 95% of the time through the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind controls our habitual behavior. If 95% of the time we are operating in habitual behavior, that means we are practically in auto-pilot.

Are you in control of your mind or is your mind in control of you? Are you spending your days going through the motions? When was the last time you used your mind to make a positive change in your habitual behavior?

Next, we will deepen our understanding of the conscious mind.

The Conscious mind, or Intellectual mind, is made up of higher mental faculties. This is where we have Logic/Reason, Will Power, Imagination, Perception. Let's remember, we operate 5% of the time using the conscious mind, the rest is programmed into the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is the thinking mind, or creative mind. We create thought impulses in the form of images. We have the ability to choose what we think, what we imagine, what we believe etc. It is processed through the conscious mind, filtered through our reason and perception and passed directly into the unconscious or subconscious mind.

The conscious mind is where we produce thoughts, it is how we use our creativity and imagination to shape the world that we live in. Deciding what to buy at the grocery store, or where you want to vacation this year.

You have the ability to accept or reject information using the conscious mind. When having a conversation, you process the information received, decide if you agree, disagree, accept, reject, how to respond, when to respond.

Take some time our of your day to think. When you think, notice what you are seeing in your mind, are you seeing images? Are you using your imagination? Are you exercising and developing will power? How often are you evaluating your perception?

Did you know that you can strengthen the mind like a muscle? Your memory, imagination, will power, focus can be worked and strengthened like a muscle.

Attention span, or focus, is part of the conscious mind. This week, I suggest you really pay attention to your focus. Are you constantly multi-tasking, stop-start-stop, easily distracted?

Use your conscious mind to your benefit, it is your source of creativity. It is what separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. We have the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn information.
