Christmas Wishes

We all have Christmas wishes every year--some humble, some purely materialistic, and some emotional. Christmas is a "magical" time, even if we don't openly feel that way. For some years, my personal wishes center around humble wants. Like many people, I've had some Christmas or holiday season traditions I don't care to relive. Every year I wish that I don't have to and hope for the best.

It's the Christmas season in 2021, and my wish list is in some ways similar to prior years. When you think about your Christmas list of wishes, what is on your list and why?

No Losses This Year

The holiday season comes around in my family, and I look at what's left of us all. For the past decade and change, I have been the patriarchal figurehead of my family. In my family, it seems like we are fated to lose loved ones between November 15th and December 20th. My mother, both grandmothers, and numerous close friends have died during this time frame. It was a foregone conclusion, from adulthood on, that the closer we got to the holiday season, someone would die.

Now that I'm nearly fifty, there's a different family around me than in prior years. A lady friend, a possible future daughter-in-law, a potential grandkid, my son, my brother, and I are what's left. My primary wish for Christmas this season is that we're all there, intact and well, especially as we spend our second Christmas in "Pandemic-World."

For Everyone To Be Happy

Alright, it's a silly wish. We all know that during this time of year, not everyone can be happy. There's always going to be some underlying drama that people drag into the holiday season, leaving them determined to ruin the mood, and the events, for everyone. The year behind us hasn't been an easy one for anyone that I know.

Imagining a time full of joy is our subconscious selves harkening to a simpler time, our childhood. As kids, adults hide the drama from us during the holidays. We didn't know when our parents were fighting, when aunts and uncles were divorcing, or when someone just found out they were ill. We had the morning to look forward to, reveling in the excitement of learning what "Santa" put under the tree. Sure, we knew that mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, were putting socks, underwear, and other various clothes under the tree. Santa's gifts always seemed to balance the boredom of clothing.

Magical Wishes

During the Christmas season, there's allegedly more goodwill flowing. With all the positive energy flowing in the world, now is that time of year to make those incredible wishes. It's the time of year to wish for those hard to achieve goals to be fulfilled, those still out of reach dreams to be more attainable, and for the impossible to become plausible.

Maybe you've been chasing after your dream date, hoping to fall in love. Perhaps you're pushing money into an account because you desperately need a new car. Every year, millions of people wish for wealth and prosperity in the new year. Perhaps it's all the positive energy in the air that makes people voice their wishes this time of year, or perhaps it's a degree of faith as they look to something they can't see. But, many philosophies believe living positively attracts positive results to our lives.

If you have positive energy you will always attract positive outcomes.

My Wishes

If there is a material wish that I have, and one that is reasonable, I would say it's my wish for a kayak. I've wanted to try kayak fishing for some time now. The peaceful serenity of being out on the open water, enjoying the escape from the world, looks so appealing. There are others, but realistically I nearly have everything I need. I also have faith that with some discipline I can say by next year that I'll have everything I need.
