Come sit with me a while while we talk about what really makes you explode with happiness. Maybe you want to be a singer? If you wake up in the morning thinking about singing, sing all day and your heart longs to sing more, then you are a singer, no matter what anybody tells you. And, if this is your life long desire, then what are you doing behind that desk?

There are several ways to find your personal path to happiness, and before deciding on a life long career, perhaps it's a good idea to take a look at several things that will help you decide where your happiness lies.

Are You Artistic or Scientific?

Many people are very artistic by nature. They draw when they are young, continuing to draw through puberty and into adulthood, or they play an instrument or are in the little theater group. However, they often balk at going into art, music or the theater because it is difficult to make a living with, and, it isn't automatically popular. If you are artistic by nature, whether it is painting, drawing, music, or theater, then it is important to realize this is your calling in life. You must work with what you love every day in order to be good at what you do, and since these areas are difficult to get into, it is very important to be good at your craft.

If you are scientific, then perhaps your mind should settle on a job that would put you in a position to work in a lab, or be a biologist, or any area that would take you where you want to go. Figure out your personal niche, what you are best doing, and then go forward with the idea of where you want to be in the workplace.

You Love Clothes and Makeup More Than Anything

Of course most young girls like clothes and makeup, but I am talking about almost an obsession with your clothing, how it looks, is it popular, how do I look in a certain style, and that extends to how your makeup looks and if you are wearing all the popular colors of lipstick. This could possibly lead to a career where you are involved in fashion shows, work with models who walk down the runway, and maybe the people who create the styles.

Writing Has Always Been My Love

If writing has always been important to you, so important that you keep journals and record feelings, ideas, your daily thoughts, or perhaps you write stories, then this is where your energy needs to be. All my life when I wrote things to people, they told me I should be a writer because they enjoyed what I wrote so much, they thought it was beautiful, or it hit the nail on the head as far as what I wanted to get across. I knew writing had to be where my heart was, and it still is. I am assuming every person in this group of people who writes feels the same way.

I'm A Computer Nerd

Maybe you are totally into electronics and computers. This is a great way to be right now in a technological world. IT jobs are abundant and there is always a place for someone who is intelligent about computers, the internet, building websites, solving problems, and so many other areas. Once again, becoming the best and most knowledgeable in your field will add to your employment success and ultimately to your financial success.

These are just a few examples of different types of people with different interests. The most important thing to remember is that we are all unique, and gifted with a special interest as we grow up. If you can keep this love of art, computers, writing, science, or whatever, and you work hard towards it, you can find a career that matches the thing you love the most. So often people chose majors in college because they feel they can make money with that particular major. But, if you are miserable going to work every day and doing the things that are given to you to complete, then maybe it is time to regroup and decide where your heart lies. It's time to make a change in your life and start doing what your heart dictates is your true calling.

About the Creator

Denise Willis

I love art as much as writing, and when the world feels dark, I get out my paper and colored pencils and draw while listening to music. When my husband and I were going through a divorce, journaling is what got me through that..
