Self love is so important.
A person should be able to look at themselves in the mirror each morning and not be ashamed of who they are based on another persons opinion. Those opinions do not matter. Your own opinion of yourself is what matters.
Self love can also be very hard. If you struggle with self love, you do not just wake up one day and suddenly love yourself. It takes each and every day to build up that love. It takes the good days and the bad days to learn to be okay with who you are.
Here are some tips on a new beginning to self love:
1. Do something you love once a week.
Yes, I said it. Do something that YOU love. It does not matter if it is by yourself or whether you drag a friend along. Just do it. Paint something, have a jam party in your car, do your hair just the way you love it, a drive alone, read a book, anything. Even the smallest of things make a difference.
2. Workout or do physical activity at least twice a week.
Again, start small. Start with some yoga or go for a walk. If you already do physical activity then try and set yourself a good schedule or a major goal to reach. Exercise is good for the brain and the heart, therefore it will make you feel so much better about yourself in the end.
3. Don't be afraid to spend time alone with yourself.
Having some alone time a few times a week is a positive thing. You can not learn to love yourself with other people around if you can not learn to love yourself when you are alone. After all, once the party is over or the friends go home, you are the only one left at the end of the day.
4. Embrace/Accept your flaws.
Now, I do not mean you have to put them out in the open and absolutely love your flaws. Instead, try and just be comfortable with the flaws you have because as much as we hate them, they are not going anywhere. Believe it or not, the flaw that you may despise, someone else may love it.
5. Forget the whispers.
Learn to ignore other peoples opinions about you because frankly they don not matter. The only opinion that is going to matter in your life is your own. Forget that comment someone said about your hair. Ignore that disgust look someone gave you. I know it is not easy, but it is possible. Plug in some headphones and forget the rest of the world and their whispers.
These may not fix the problem or make you love yourself in an instant, but they help move the process along. Self love is all up to you and how you choose to take it. Take the criticism as a good thing to improve how you feel about yourself. Take the good with the bad and mix it all together to get something even more beautiful in the end.
Loving yourself does not have to be black and white. There are going to be days when you still wake up and hate how you look in a pair of jeans because no one is perfect and that is okay. Instead of getting angry and ripping the jeans off, wear them with pride anyway because you are you and you are beautiful just the way you are.
Shine bright and be positive. Anything is possible as long as you learn to believe in yourself.
