Let’s Talk About Summer

What do you like to do during the summer?

It’s the middle of the summer and, regardless of your age, if you’re not working, taking summer classes, or going to summer camp (in case you’re 12 or younger), it can get very overwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, summer is great; you get to sleep in, rest, hang out, and do all the stuff you couldn’t do before because of either the weather or because you just didn’t have time.

But, doesn’t it get repetitive after a while? I’m trying not to use the word boring here, because summer can’t never be boring (right?). But here you are, with three months of your life of free time and there’s only so much you can do... you might think.

In reality, there’s a lot we don’t know we can do during the summer, but we’re so used to doing the same things over and over again, believing that’s all we like, that we get lost in the moment.

Here are 3 major tips that you may already know but also might need to hear again:

1. Break the chains.

And leave your comfort zone for a chance. Try to do things you’ve never done before. I mean, you’re really not getting younger, so enjoy the time you have and maybe go out and explore that one place you’ve never been to before in your town, or make that crazy meal you keep looking on that one food video you can’t stop watching because it is SO GOOD. I know this sounds easy but, believe me, it’s not. It’s scary, and sometimes we don’t have the energy to try to do something new, especially if you are going through some stuff and don’t have the energy to do anything (I’ll talk about this particular subject in another post, if you want to read more about it). But you've just got to push yourself, one little thing at a time, every day. I mean, seriously, this first tip is actually really hard for me, as well. But you can start small. For example, if you want to stay home, you can maybe try to do some yoga (there are plenty of yoga instructors on YouTube that post videos for beginners), or maybe watch that one movie you’ve been wanting to watch but haven’t. One little thing at a time, every day.

2. Do things that make you happy.

Cute little places like this are great to explore

Do things that you couldn’t do when it wasn’t summer that make you smile instantly. It doesn’t matter if it’s getting your favorite ice cream, sunbathing, or walking on that cute trail that wasn’t open because it wasn’t summer. Do them! Self care is very important, year round, and taking care of yourself, putting yourself first, is a good way to change your summer a bit.

3. Check List/To-do List/Bucket List... Whatever You Want to Call It

Watching the sunset at the beach makes me happy.

Although I’m a fan of surprises and unexpected adventures, I would still strongly suggest you write down what you want to do during the summer. First, you have to think (using tip 1 and 2) about what you want to do this summer, and then do some research. Check what’s in town that you’d like to do or visit or maybe search if you can travel somewhere. And if you’re all about staying at home right now (because of personal reasons, which are totally understandable) I would still write down those things you’d like to do while being at home; for example, “Monday - Movie, Tuesday - Yoga, Wednesday - cooking...” You get the idea.

I like to find out about new coffee shops in my area to visit.

Summer can be a lot of fun, if you want it to.

Let me know what your summer adventures are about, what you like to do, and what other tips you have to enjoy summer to the fullest... I really want to know and try them.

Love,

Nat
