Everything in life comes at us fast and we’re given many instances where we have to make snap decisions in order to either fail or succeed.

If you’re given a choice to take on a new job, but quit one month too soon, you may miss out on opportunities of a lifetime.

If you put money into a stock you believe in, but sell all your shares the moment things get shaky, you could miss out on thousands of dollars in profit.

If you believe that things are making a turn for the worst and cut your losses before they fully develop, you’ll end up missing out on a lot of opportunities.

Life Presents Opportunities for a Reason

In my lifetime, I’ve taken tons of risks on numerous different projects and ventures.

The things I’ve done have led me to the place I am today and without sticking to them, I would have never been able to work comfortably from home and a sustainable foundation of funds in my accounts.

Aside from the money aspect of things, nothing beats getting experience and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

When you’re gray and old, you’ll go through old pictures and memories to see all the things you did when you were younger. Would you rather have an empty scrapbook and very few stories to tell your grandchildren or plenty?

Not everyone needs to be an inspiration, but if that’s what you’re seeking, then saying yes to opportunities will serve you well.

Opportunities presented to me in my lifetime include:

  • Deploying with the Army to The Middle East for a Year
  • Moving often as a military kid and adapting to places like Seattle, Germany, and Chicago.
  • Day-Trading in stocks thanks to several mentors
  • Writing online for fulfillment and monetary compensation
  • Running-half marathons for fun to then being top five on my cross country team.
  • Joining several school clubs and experience various life-changing events.
  • Saying yes to things, when I’m fearful or uncertain.

Say Yes More Often Than Not

You’re going to be put in awkward and uncertain situations all throughout your life. The two reactions you can have are either fight or flight.

On one hand, you can say yes and go all-in, stick with it, and discover more about yourself and learn something new.

On the other hand, you can flee from the opportunity and run away without looking back, not knowing whether it was a good decision or not and missing out on the potential experience.

It’s easy to try something, feel like it’s not for you, and flock from the situation. It’s just as easy to stagnate your growth and say no to job opportunities, new experiences, or social events.

The benefits of saying yes:

  • You gain experience in whatever it is you say yes to.
  • It helps you understand things you do and don’t like.
  • Fears and doubts are eliminated from trying new things.
  • You’ll feel empowered to have various experiments under your belt.
  • Patience = Pay-tience

Throughout my day trading experience thus far, I’ve learned more about patience than almost anything else in my lifetime.

One particular trade changed my entire mind. I placed $1,800 into a trade that could have turned out to be worth $40,000 just three hours later.

My stomach dropped when I looked at the costly mistake I had made, and it motivated me to write this article. Life isn’t all about getting the most money, but when money is involved it definitely heightens your awareness or anxiety.

Treat life like a video game and understand that you’re going through different levels every single day, every minute, every second.

If you want to advance to the next level, you’re going to have to adapt, face new challenges head-on, and keep moving forward even when things don’t seem to go right.

The breakthrough of achieving your next level will be incredibly fulfilling and well-worth your efforts.

If you're taking a leap of faith, there are several things you should know:

  • If things don’t go right at first, you’re going to want to quit.
  • You may question why you committed to the venture in the first place.
  • You will wonder if it’s even worth your time.
  • When good things happen, you’ll be more inclined to keep going.
  • You will be proud of yourself for at least trying.
  • Job opportunities, fulfillment, and new connections may present themselves.

Ways You Can Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

If you are realizing that you are too timid and afraid to take risks, you can follow my checklist I’ll share with you in order to boost your chances of getting the most out of life.

Things I’ve done to step outside of my comfort zone:

  • Meet new people and asked a lot of questions that lead to inspiration and enhanced learning.
  • Travel to new places you’ve never been before, and this can even be nearby towns.
  • Workout because when your body is right, so is your mind and it makes you more open-minded.
  • Join online communities and network with people inside of them. Many people are more than willing to help you in any way possible, especially “Yes Fam” on Facebook.
  • Read more books — Rich Dad, Poor Dad, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, The Power of Habit, and Think and Grow Rich.

Final Thought

Not every opportunity that presents itself is going to be worth your time in the long-run.

Saying yes to anything and everything is not going to make you a millionaire overnight.

If you’re motivated to try new things in life as I have, the benefits can be advantageous to you. Your confidence and your skillset will be enhanced and workplaces are going to have a bidding war over you.

For those of you who are doubting yourselves and feel incredibly lost in life, you are not alone. Most people don’t have the willingness or patience to take a risk that could set them back in order to make them happy.

You may feel stuck, but you’re only stuck right now.

Find something that interests you and commit to it.

Remember not to quit too early, otherwise you could miss out on incredible opportunities.
