I Am Not Longer Asking Myself for Permission

Secretly you’re only afraid of what others might think.

I am writing this article here only because I know that I have a chance to get it well-received.

I have already been very successful in other topics, especially the topic of programming, blogging on Medium and other platforms.

That’s why I’m writing this now, why I dare to write it now.

I see it as justified to try it also here — not only to other topics, to write here on Medium.

That doesn’t make sense to you? You’re right; it doesn’t.

Actually, I would also be sure — even if I had not been successful before.

But then I would have asked myself how to justify the attempt.

Because actually, we’re just afraid of what other people might think.

Justification is not about me at all. As I said, I’m confident either way.

I would then only lack justification if someone asked why I tried it. We fear the judgment of others that they cannot understand what we are trying to do.

It’s the same mentality that people don’t dare go to the gym — because they consider themselves nonathletic? Yes, because they are merely afraid of being judged.

Even though they are in the right place — and that’s the most important thing.

It doesn’t matter if other people think they wouldn’t be.

How to Stop Asking Yourself for Permission

Good that we have recognized that we are actually only afraid of the opinion of others.

Do you regularly condemn others? And do you actively confront them, for example? No? — Neither do I.

And if we’re honest, most of us don’t do that. So it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll be individually judged.

We should be more afraid of not trying.

Just imagine what we’re missing, in case we don’t try.

What if we create something great, and instead of being condemned for it, even get recognition?

The truth is that most of the people in our lives whose opinions we value do not play a role for us at all. Perhaps they are acquaintances, friends of friends, work colleagues — most of them will certainly not accompany us for life.

Start doing things for the purpose of seeing, trying something, strengthening your self-confidence.

You try something — very good. You have crawled out of your comfort zone. Are you successful with that? So much, the better!

Are you not successful? No problem — one less thing in this world to fail with.

Stop asking yourself for permission. In truth, you are asking people in your head for their permission in an unlikely and irrelevant scenario — and not even there do they have the power to forbid you anything.
