How To Stick to Your Resolutions

We all know how hard it can be...

It's the new year, and as always, people are talking about how they're going to get fit, save money, and much more this year. For a while, they keep these promises to themselves. But we're beginning to reach that point where, after some time, they either give up, fall off the wagon or just quit altogether, saying "There's always next year." Well today, I'm going to share with you seven tips on how to keep up your goals consistently throughout 2018 forward.

1.) Make sure it's achievable and within reason.

Sometimes, people take aim at things that just aren't feasible. For example, if you want to lose weight, don't say you're going to drop 100 pounds in the first month. Firstly, that's very dangerous for you; secondly, it's just not practical. It's OK to have high expectations for yourself, but with some things, it's best to start off small. Say you'll lose 15 or 20 pounds in the first month, or something similar. Just think realistically.

2.) Don't make excuses for yourself.

One thing everyone is guilty of is creating reasons why they can't do something. You're too tired, there's not enough time in the day, things always get in the way. This is quitter talk. Go to the gym, clean your attic, cut those toxic people out, whatever it is, don't get in the way of your own plan.

3.) Let the bigger picture motivate you.

If your goal is to clean your house from top to bottom, think about how accomplished you'll feel once it's done. With losing weight, imagine how good you'll feel once you can look in the mirror and be happy with yourself. If you want to leave negative people behind, consider how much better you'll feel with more positive vibes around you. So get to that area of your house that's a mess but no one wants to talk about, do those five extra squats, buy you a brand new pair of scissors and cut that tie. Regardless what you want to do or how you do it, you're doing what's good for you.

4.) Track your progress.

It's always a good idea to keep tabs on how far you've come and what you've done since you began. It's a really good motivator and gives you something to brag about! Plus, you making developments and proving you're really dedicated may cause someone else to get motivated, which would be really cool since you could end up with a buddy to help push you when you need it and vice versa.

5.) Have a good attitude.

If you're going to the gym, don't sit there in your car dreading going inside. If you're eating healthier, don't complain about that salad. No matter what, do not let yourself feel pessimistic. Why? Because when you have a negative outlook on the road to success, you won't get results.

6.) Realize that things take time.

No matter what, things don't usually happen overnight. It's OK for things to have a slower pace. You can't rush the good that's coming your way. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day, after all.

7.) You've got this.

Believe in yourself. If you can't have faith in yourself, who will? At the end of each day, it's on you whether you did what you needed to. You will always have yourself, so use that to your advantage and get going.

I hope these tips help you on your New Year's journey. I know me, personally, I've always had trouble sticking to my weight loss goals. But, I soon learned these mental notions and figured that everyone who was struggling like I was needed to hear these as well.

Good luck!!
