How do you motivate yourself? 🤔🤔

Look at the bigger picture!!

Motivation

In The Simpsons there is a great example of this.

Homer Simpson is, at this time, a father of two children and hates his job at the power plant.

When he finally gets his check to clear his debt he decides it's time to take on a new role in life and takes a job at a Bowling Alley, humiliating his old boss during the leave.

Working there was like a dream for him; he loved it and celebrated this new part with his wife Marge.

The celebration over this new job resulted in something unexpected: His wife got pregnant.

Upon hearing the news Homer figured that he needed to make more money, which the Bowling Alley could not provide due to their low income.

So, Homer had to return to the Power Plant and ask for his old job back. Having humiliated his boss, this one asks him to beg for the job and places a Plaque by his desk that reads “Don’t forget; you’re here forever.”

While this crushed Homer at first, he recovered upon the birth of his child, Maggie, who he instantly fell in love with.

Ever since then he has taken all the pictures of her and placed them over the plaque. Having covered up most of the lettering it now reads “Do it for her” with pictures all over the place.

Homer probably never felt like working at the plant. He likely despised most of his days, was probably often discouraged, and I bet he had not a few days where he wished he could be back in the Bowling Alley.

But he probably always did the best he could and was always motivated to do better, because he has a bigger picture he is working for.

Plenty of parents go through similar situations and there are quite a few stories like this.

The point here is that almost everybody who works really hard has a reason that trumps their desire for comfort, making the actions take precedence over any feelings inside.

Motivation, in this case, is something that comes from an emotional connection to a goal.

The more powerful the associated emotion is the stronger your drive to succeed becomes. For that, you need a powerful, big picture to hold onto.

Something that inspires you to do greater, something you value more than you hate the work.

It’s this reason that short-term, easy-to-achieve and generally small goals never truly seem to motivate you.

They are fine for a while… to be exact: they are fine right up until the work gets difficult, at which point it’s not worth it anymore. (This is the biggest problem in New Year’s Resolutions).

Short-term goals just don’t carry the same impact and just don’t have the same spark the big picture does.

Let me ask you this: How much stress would you indulge in for $1,000? How about $1,000,000?

If you go to the gym, are you really willing to put your sweat and tears forth for just losing 2 lbs? How about gaining the body of your dreams?

Hardwork

I hope with this you understand just how important it is to have a big picture in front and to not cut your dreams short to make them achievable.

For while they may be easier to act upon, they will not carry you that far.

If you truly want to be motivated and remain motivated you must find something that matters to you.

What makes others valuable in your eyes? What is the sign of living a great life to you? What would you wish for if you had an unlimited number of wishes? If you could only choose one thing you would change in the world, what would it be? What matters to you? What truly matters?

Explore these questions and come up with something truly personal to you. You’ll know when you’ve found it because it will leave you feeling excited, anxious and overall emotional inside.

Sit down sometime this week and explore these questions. If you do so for at least 30 minutes I promise you you’ll be a lot closer to something that will motivate you for a long time, if not be there already.

But you must find something personal to you. And after that, it’s only about remembering it.

My advice: Do it as Homer did, so you make sure you never forget why you are doing what you are doing. As long as you do that, it will all be worth it in the end.

I hope you would have liked it, if yes give ❤️ it and use the tip option to keep me motivated.

I'll see you at the next one.

Till then, enjoy and have fun!

Thank you
