The Beauty in the Light
A new day dawns beautiful and bright,
Through drifting skies we glimpse thy might.
With gentle grace and tenderness,
Dew kissed fields shiver with delight.
As the heart of humanity stirs anew,
Fragrant dreams fill lofty minds,
So we pray… God grant us serenity divine!
Follow Your Dreams!
I believe that anything is possible, that there are nor should there be limits on what a person can achieve. However, to achieve anything you have to step out on blind faith and hope that what you have envisioned will come to fruition if you work hard and stay focused on your goals. I decided to join Vocal for two reasons, the first being my desire for personal expression as a fledgling writer and the other was to connect to other people who are creative and outgoing. Although I am very nervous about "putting myself out here," I need an outlet to express my inner musings and feelings about life and its impact on our daily lives, and to be honest I feel that it will be cathartic for me because I recently suffered a serious loss in my life (a story for another day). I am also going through a period of indecision about what the hell am I going to do with the rest of my life! My baby, and yes he will probably cringe when he reads that I continue to refer to him as my baby, is now 22 years old, and my oldest will soon turn 30, so I am an empty nester who doesn't have an empty nest just quite yet. But I digress, and that also is a story for another day!
At the heart of why I am here is that I believe in encouraging others to have dreams but more than that to follow those dreams. We are the sum total of our hopes and dreams, and a person who has dreams has a purpose for living, something to aspire to, and something to look forward to. Those who do not have dreams and aspirations may be living a limited life that is sapping their potential and they stumble through each day just surviving.
I know this to be true because I nearly lost my dreams in a sea of sorrow and self-doubt that almost crippled and paralyzed me with fear to the point of despair. I allowed the opinions of others to stop me from nurturing my dreams and then I summarily packed them away and tried to move forward without them. However, dreams have a way of creeping back into our psyche then back into our consciousness like an old lover reminding us of why fell in love with them in the first place. Although some lovers are best left in the past, there have been a few that may make you wonder, “what if?” Blow the dust off of those dreams, reexamine them and move forward because don't be one of those timid souls who will live with regret for what could have been.
The one thing that is helpful is if those around us are understanding and nurturing of our dreams and if they are not, then perhaps they are not truly in your corner. I believe that if you love someone, truly love them, then you will want them to have dreams to follow, you'll want to see them be successful. When you help those that you love to follow their dreams, you in essence tell them, “I believe in you, I believe that you will fulfill your heart’s desire.” You see when you make room in your heart and mind for this way of thinking, to respect another person’s pursuit of their dream or dreams, and then they will do it best.
I am no expert when it comes to raising children, however my last statement is even truer supporting our children; often parents try to relive their lives vicariously through their children because they see it as a second chance for themselves. It is not, but it is a chance to encourage their children’s efforts, cheer them on and to applaud their accomplishments, and for me that is the greatest feeling of all. To know that you in some short measure had a hand in shaping a human being who has reached their goals!
The author James Allen once said,
"Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil."
So my wish for everyone who will be kind enough to read my fledgling musings from the edge, is that you have dreams, that you will dream BIG and never allow anyone tell you that you shouldn't follow your dream. Just know this, I will be cheering you on and wishing you well from somewhere in this theater that we call life. To be honest, I'm not sure if I will be successful at this, but I am going to give it my best and I hope that you will come on this journey with me today, tomorrow and all the days after that.
Stay well dear friends!
