Even the Good Leaves Fall

A chat with Inner Being

It’s autumn, and even though there was a cool breeze blowing, the sun was shining making the leaves glisten as they rustled in the wind.

Jessy was feeling a bit down today and she thought that a walk in the park might lift her spirits up a bit. It often does. Today though, as the dry leaves crackle under her feet, walking along the path, Jessy thought it might take just a little bit more effort than usual to pick herself up from the doldrums.

She’s feeling particularly alone today. Her sense of alone-ness had been building up over the weeks. Or at least that’s what she had taught herself to believe. Her phone used to ring almost non-stop, with calls from people clamouring for her attention, for her advice, for any words of wisdom or encouragement that she could offer. Her email inbox used to get so full with offers of ideas, events and services, just for a chance to work with her. She had wondered then whether it was time to get a personal assistant just to attend to her emails.

Then all of a sudden, with one single event, her whole world changed. One by one, people who she thought were her friends started to distance themselves from her. The emails started taking a tone of anger and disappointment. Phone calls still came but more out of a demand for explanation from people who were suddenly feeling lost without her guidance. Eventually, the hysteria from the event died down. The event doesn’t even seem important anymore. The phone stopped ringing, and the emails dwindled to almost none. But, along with it, it seemed to Jessy, the people also disappeared. Her so called loyal friends, who previously pledged their undying support for her no matter what, are now seemingly unreachable. It made her feel unwanted, unappreciated and unloved. She often seriously considered moving to a far away place, where she can perhaps rebuild her life and make new friends.

It took a long time for Jessy to get used to her now more sedate existence. She was used to the hype and the buzz. She enjoyed being in demand, when she was almost always surrounded by people who wanted to be around her, wanted to be photographed with her. Now, it seems to Jessy, nothing ever happens anymore. Initially, the sudden halt of activity and the quietness of her life nearly drove her insane. Slowly though, she learned to appreciate the peace and quiet, which in her previously hectic days, she remembered asking for, really, really strongly.

Still, there are days when she longs for the busy pace that used to define her life. And today was one of those days.

“It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?” Jessy heard a familiar voice.

Jessy stopped walking. She looked around, then up at the clear blue sky. The brightness made her squint and she closed her eyes to bask in the warmth of the sunshine. She stretched her arms out to feel the cool air.

“Well, the skies are blue, the sun is shining bright, the air is fresh, the dogs are playing happily, and I hear children’s laughter ringing around the park… I suppose it is a beautiful day!” Jessy thought to herself. She almost let herself smile.

As she continued to walk, she heard the leaves crackle under her feet again. She remembered how as a child she used to love the sound of it. She looked up at the big Liquid Amber tree towering above her, but, in Jessy’s eyes, looking rather abandoned with all its leaves completely gone.

“I know how you feel, tree. I’m feeling rather abandoned, too. Even by those who I thought were my good friends,” Jessy thought as she felt her resentment rising again.

“I guess they were not really my friends if they walked out of my life. I’m probably better off without them,” Jessy told herself as she continued to walk. She was trying to make herself feel better.

She took one last look at the tree and thought, “I wonder if the trees really do feel as I do, when they lose their leaves.”

“Take a closer look at the leaves, Jessy,” Jessy heard that familiar voice again.

Jessy stopped walking and crouched down on one knee to inspect the leaves on the ground.

“What am I looking for?” she asked.

“Are the leaves on the ground all dry and discoloured?” the voice asked.

“No, some of them are still green and fresh. They are good leaves,” Jessy answered.

“You mean to say, even the good leaves fall? Yet we don’t see any trees running around complaining or weeping in despair when they lose their good leaves,” the voice said.

Jessy smiled. She almost laughed out loud at the image of trees running around complaining.

The soothing voice continued. “The difference between you and the trees right now, Jessy, is that the trees know for certain that all is well. The trees know that they will have leaves again. The trees know that they don’t have to move to another spot or to get leaves from other trees just to have leaves again. The trees know that their wellbeing comes from within.”

Jessy chuckled.

“The trees don’t feel abandoned, Jessy. And neither should you. Just as these trees lose their leaves according to the season, as is natural to them, people will come in and out of your experience too, in accordance with your point of attraction. There is nothing wrong with that.

“When the leaves fall from the trees, it doesn’t mean that anything has gone wrong. By the same token, when people leave your experience, it doesn’t mean that anything has gone wrong. It simply means that they are no longer a match to what is active in your vibration.

Remember who YOU are, Jessy. You are the creator of your experience. Be the best friend that you always wanted to have. And watch what happens. All is well, Jessy. You are loved. Things are always working out for you.”

Jessy was still smiling as she listened patiently, appreciating the message she is getting. The walk in the park certainly helped, but it was hearing the message that really soothed her. She observed the odd leaves still falling from random trees all around the park, yes, even the good leaves, but it didn’t bring her down anymore. She was feeling much lighter now. She felt so uplifted that she skipped joyfully all the way home!

“Wheeeeeeee! Thank you Inner Being! It is always great to connect with you!” Jessie chirped.

“You are welcome Jessy. And I’m always here with you.”
