Even though we're often told that the past is in the past and we should never look back, it's sometimes nice to take a look behind us to see how far we've come. Reflecting on how our lives were before can help us realise how much we've improved our lives and how much better we're doing now.

Every change we make in our lives has the potential to drastically boost our happiness. Making big decisions and choosing a different path or exploring other opportunities can be scary, but also incredibly worth it. I've personally made my fair share of life-changing uprooting swaps, including switching degrees/universities and moving countries multiple times. People around you might have different opinions than you and try to tell you it's a bad idea, but you know with yourself whether it's right for you or not, and as we all probably know, regretting NOT doing something really sucks.

Looking back and now seeing success in an area of your life where you before were unhappy is an incredibly satisfying feeling, and you get to be grateful to yourself that you made the change. Of course, sometimes we all make mistakes, as we can't always know beforehand whether something is a good switch or not, but being brave enough to try is an achievement in itself. I'm a millennial, and a part of me feels like I owe it to the boomers to take chances and make the life I want for myself even if it's risky at times, as many of them ended up in lives they didn't choose but were conditioned into by society. Even though the job and housing markets today are challenging for young people, we also have way more opportunities in other areas that have opened up, and a world that's so much more global than before, and this is something we really should take advantage of.

If you're in a situation where you don't feel happy, that doesn't feel right or it seems that everyone else does much better than you, a change could be overdue. You owe yourself the best life possible, and taking steps to change your life for the better should be a priority. Of course, don't put yourself in dangerous or irresponsible situations, but really try and look if there's something you can do to improve your life and help make you thrive.

Life's too short to waste your time, and although it's not always gonna be perfect, making yourself happy should always be something you focus on. We should be spending as much of our lives as we can being happy, and not just simply existing. Focus on the elements in your life that take up the most time and energy, such as your job and the people you surround yourself with. Something that is a large part of your life is also gonna decide a large part of your happiness, so if for instance you're stuck in a job that doesn't stimulate or challenge you at all, it could really be worth trying to negotiate your position or to look for a new job elsewhere.

We can't control everything in life, but make sure that the things you can control are things that make you happy. If the foundation of your life is one that you're happy with, it's gonna get easier to deal with various trials and tribulations that life throws your way. You'll be more prepared to handle negative incidents, as the base of your life is positive. We all deserve to get the best possible experience out of life.
