In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced lives, it's easy to get caught up in the routine of work, studies, and responsibilities, often forgetting life's simple pleasures. However, amidst this whirlwind, it's crucial to make every day, month, and season an event to look forward to. While it's inevitable to be engrossed in our daily grind, I believe that celebrating each season can help us not only reconnect with the changing rhythms of nature but also with ourselves. We might not always realize it, but our needs, work schedules, and even sleep patterns subtly shift with the seasons. Going against this natural flow can be detrimental to our well-being. Instead, by embracing the unique offerings of each season, we can find moments of joy and renewal.

Here I will list some of the practical ways to celebrate the changing seasons. These are ideas I use to curate my own seasonal bucket lists. I hope you will find them helpful.

Go outside!

The most obvious step is a simple one too. Step outside and escape the digital world for a while! Instead of scrolling through your phone, embrace the great outdoors. Take a leisurely stroll in your local park or around your neighborhood. Immerse yourself in nature's beauty. Admire the colorful flora and feel the fresh breeze against your skin. Challenge yourself to identify different flowers, plants, and birds as the seasons change. You can even research them later for fun facts!

And if going outside isn't an option, simply crack open a window and let the outside world in. Feel the air circulating through your room, gaze at the sky, and listen to the symphony of bird songs.

Before you know it, you'll be so in sync with nature that you'll practically feel the seasons shifting. It's almost like Lorelai Gilmore's knack for sniffing out snowfall and predicting its arrival (although, let's face it, I doubt I'll ever master that level of season-sniffing expertise!).

Follow seasonal recipes

Building your meals around seasonal produce is a delicious and health-conscious choice. By focusing on what's in season, like vibrant fruits and crisp vegetables, you not only enjoy the peak flavors of each season but also boost your immune system and overall well-being. Indulge in juicy melons and stone fruits during the summer or savor hearty meals during the cooler months. Embracing seasonal eating not only makes your meals tastier but also ensures you're nourishing your body with the freshest and most nutrient-rich options available.

One thing I love to do is recreate the flavors of my childhood with nostalgic dishes. Embrace the seasons with delightful treats such as peach or berry cobbler to savor the essence of summer, or indulge in the comforting warmth of apple crumble as autumn’s crispness arrives. As winter sets in, fill your home with the aroma of molassasy baked goods, transporting you back to simpler times and the joys of seasonal delights.

Decorating seasonally doesn't have to mean buying new materials; instead, use what you already have. Align your decor with the colors of the season—think pastels for spring, vibrant hues for summer, and warm tones like browns, oranges, and yellows for fall. In winter, opt for neutral, festive, or moodier palettes according to your preference. You can even bring the essence of nature indoors with leaves, plants, and flowers as simple yet effective decorations. Consider displaying seasonal fruits or incorporating DIY projects for a personal touch. If you enjoy art, painting your own landscapes or wall art that reflects the season's palette can be both an enjoyable activity and rewarding in terms of transforming your space.

Change up your routine

Changing up your routine can inject fresh energy into your day-to-day schedule. As the seasons shift, consider adjusting your sleep schedule. For instance, in winter, you may choose to indulge in a few extra moments of rest or contemplation in the morning, which can be rejuvenating. Establishing a morning ritual, such as reading a book upon waking or before bed, adds a calming rhythm to your day. Adapt your morning beverage to suit the season—for example, opt for floral teas in spring and spicier blends in fall or winter—to awaken your senses. By embracing these seasonal adjustments, you can stave off monotony and keep your daily experience engaging.

Plan your TBR

Ever since I began embracing the rhythm of the seasons in my life, even my reading habits have adapted to match the changing atmosphere. I try to keep my TBR list flexible, adjusting it to each season's unique character. In summer, I gravitate towards light and breezy reads that complement the sunny days and leisurely afternoons. As autumn arrives and the weather turns cooler, my preference shifts to darker, atmospheric books that perfectly capture the mood of rainy days and crisp evenings. There's something magical about losing myself in stories that align so perfectly with the external world, and I highly encourage you to do the same. This not only adds a delightful layer to your reading journey but also deepens your connection with the ever-changing world around you

P.S. If you're looking to start with a book that beautifully romanticizes the seasons, ‘Anne of Green Gables’ is the book for you. You won't be disappointed.

Keep a seasonal commonplace book

There's something beautifully nostalgic about the concept of a commonplace book—a labor of love where everything imaginable finds its place. There are no strict rules to follow, commonplace books are deeply personal and reflective. They provide a sanctuary to chronicle more than just your daily life.

If you wish, consider maintaining a seasonal commonplace book where you can capture poetry, cherished quotes, excerpts, and even recipes that evoke the essence of each season. Within these pages, you can also include nature notes or short stories—the possibilities are endless.

I particularly enjoy keeping a seasonal commonplace book, celebrating nature's changing tapestry with recipes, quotes, excerpts, and poems that resonate with each season's essence. Flipping through these pages reconnects me with myself and the world around me, inspiring me to read, write, and savor the emotions that each season brings.

Think of seasonal activities you will enjoy

Seasonal activities offer a delightful way to connect with nature and tradition throughout the year. Whether it's enjoying lazy beach picnics in the summer or strolling through vibrant flower festivals in the spring, each season brings its own unique charm. Fond memories of visiting apple orchards and pumpkin patches in the crisp autumn air, followed by cooking up seasonal delights, evoke a comforting sense of nostalgia and warmth (lucky you if you live in a place where you can experience true fall). Winter invites cozy moments like skiing, sleighing (not where I live!) or simply curling up with a book and a cup of hot chocolate.

Take the time to explore local events and festivals that celebrate each season. While it may not be possible to partake in every activity, embracing at least one seasonal tradition not only enriches the year's rhythm but also creates enduring memories. Extra points if these activities evoke nostalgic memories.

Create Pinterest boards

If you find it challenging to embrace the essence of each season, try creating mood boards as a visual aid. Platforms like Pinterest offer a wealth of inspiration, allowing you to curate boards based on aesthetics such as cottagecore or dark academia, or to invent your own!

These boards not only help you visualize the seasons and activities you want to experience but also shift your perspective. By curating images, colors, and themes that evoke a specific mood or vibe associated with each time of the year, you can enhance your perception of seasonal changes, encouraging you to see the world through a different lens.

Use ASMR ambience videos

If you find yourself unable to go outdoors or living in a place where seasons unfold differently from the typical norms, you can make use of ASMR ambiance videos. For instance, where I live, fall arrives without changing leaves but with gloomy skies, howling winds, and rain (which I still love). Personally, I still crave the colors of fall and the sounds of crunching leaves during autumn. To satisfy this longing, I turn to ASMR ambiance videos. Whether I'm reading or studying, playing these videos puts me in the right mood and transports me mentally to the seasonal atmosphere I cherish.

You can use this method to fully immerse yourself in the essence of the current season, no matter where you are. With tens of thousands of seasonal ASMR ambiance videos available on YouTube, you have a wide array to choose from. Create a playlist of your favorites and revisit them each season to recreate that seasonal atmosphere and enhance your experience.

Watch seasonally too

Movies and TV shows have a special ability to evoke the essence of different seasons. For example, "Gilmore Girls" is renowned as the quintessential fall TV show, capturing the cozy atmosphere and vibrant colors of autumn. There are many others that personally resonate with specific seasons. Watching these shows can be a delightful way to immerse yourself in the seasonal spirit.

You can search for curated seasonal watch lists to find new favorites that align with each time of year and enhance your seasonal celebration.

Lastly, I would like to emphasize that enjoying the seasons doesn't require spending extra money. Instead, make use of what you already have and get creative. Whether it's DIY projects or simply appreciating the natural beauty around you, the essence lies in cherishing the experience rather than increasing materialistic desires.

With that, let's make every season an opportunity to reconnect, rejuvenate, and celebrate the beauty and diversity that each time of year brings. Wishing you a plethora of joyous moments every season!
