10 Ways to Defeat a Rut

A lot of times you find yourself in a weird place and your mood is just down and you don’t know why; or you're hurt, rejected, someone broke your heart; or just unmotivated and can’t focus or get back on your work or find a path to your success. First, have an open mind while trying these items.

  1. Read. - Please, it’s so simple and it opens a whole new world in someone else's written words; try to read one book every month and pick up something that’s not really your taste. This brings so much motivation from nonfiction to fiction and poetry it helps your mind expanse.
  2. Write it down. - What do you want, where do you want to go, how far to plan to go, how and why you want this. It puts it out into the world; read it constantly and picture it while reading like it's happening (law of attraction).
  3. Have a dance party. - Put on your favorite song and dance because no one is watching. It makes you feel so much better about yourself—find a playlist, grab a friend maybe. Find time to start this habit.
  4. Drink tea. - It’s good. Add honey to herbal tea or get green tea. Drinking something healthy and green to boost the mood is strong and really wakes you up; if you don’t drink tea, drink water
  5. Meditation - It’s so calm and helps focus. From guided meditation to just listening to music and closing your eyes, it’s to focus and calm the brain while breathing. I prefer guided; I use Headspace, Calm and Oak—they are free and helpful for beginners, or a tarot deck but that's only for certain people.
  6. Start a journal. - It’s so relieving; it’s just for you to get out all the stuff you don’t say. Start a journal to just write (brain dump) everything that’s in your head without feeling blocked by someone else.
  7. Plan something. - From a trip, to a walk or how you will do new daily habits or a new routine, plan a day out after you get paid or down the road about where your life is going. It’s keeps your mind focused on what you want to change, and you get super excited.
  8. Treat yourself. - Bake something sweet; break your diet just for one day, dip into the savings, and buy concerts tickets or buy those new clothes or something you really didn’t need but know will boost your mood.
  9. Start a collection. - It can be mugs or snow globes (my collection), but just have something that brings you a strange joy if you just have them. Adding to a collection you already have could go with #8.
  10. Spring clean!! - My favorite season is spring because of spring cleaning. It doesn’t have to be in spring, but redecorate your room or apartment or wherever you live. Give it a new look or open the windows. Changing your own atmosphere will boost your mood like crazy; this is really saves you and putting something new to change your space doesn’t even have to be anything big. Buy a new plant or painting or bed spread. It helps so much.

Also learn to love yourself please. You are amazing; if you’re in a rut look in the mirror and scream just how amazing and beautiful you are. Learning to love yourself opens so many door because you know you are the only one in control and way better than everyone to make your life the exact way you picture it. Go out try something new. Do yoga, meditate, go to your local book store and get something that catches your eye. Boost your mood.
