Self-Reflection During This Pandemic

Self-Reflection at the River

I think everyone would probably agree that we are all ready for this pandemic to be over with. We are ready to return to whatever "normal" life will be. What normal life was prior to February of 2020 before the corona virus suddenly became a common household word is, I think, something of the past.

But, along with the negative, and there has been a lot of that, has come a great deal of positive too. We have gotten the opportunity to spend more time, a lot more time, with our children and other family members that we wouldn't have ordinarily gotten. We have also been able to work on projects, cook and eat more meals together, talk to each other more, be more creative, get extra sleep, learn more, play games, spend less time in the car or in traffic, walk our dogs more, pet our dogs more, love each other more, plant more gardens, catch up on things, get more organized, write more, hobby more, and work from home! (Who didn't wish they could work at home before all this happened? Or back in the 90s before working at home became a popular thing?) That's just to name a few of the good things.

For a lot of people, this has also been an opportunity for getting to know ourselves. We have all been kind of forced introspection. I think that self-reflection and introspection are important.

Self-reflection

/ˈˌself rəˈflekSHən,ˈˌself rēˈflekSHən/ noun

meditation or serious thought about one's character, actions, and motives.

in·tro·spec·tion

/ˌintrəˈspekSH(ə)n/ noun

the examination or observation of one's own mental and emotional processes.

"quiet introspection can be extremely valuable"

There are many benefits of self-reflection and its an important part of being human. It's the main component to self-awareness and emotional intelligence and it allows us to examine who we are and what we are about. It helps us be more understanding to others as well.

"Reflection is the examination of one's own conscious thoughts and feelings. ... Human self-reflection is the capacity of humans to exercise introspection and the willingness to learn more about their fundamental nature, purpose and essence."

I know personally I have learned a lot about myself over the past several months. I went through a bad breakup last November and I'm going to be celebrating a year of being single. The longest I have ever been single. I have always been afraid to be single but it turns out, it isn't even that big of a deal.

Thank you for reading my words and I hope you have a blessed day.
