A Possible Tip From New Husband

Still On Honeymoon

Do you know of someone that people think is lazy because they do not have a job?

I know of a lady with a talent that nobody believed in but when in her early elementary school days the teachers knew. She was even placed in a creative writing class then. Her teachers saw the talent. Her talent stayed with her up to this day.

Then, she grew up. She always liked choosing greeting cards for people. So, she looked into writing greeting card verse. She kept writing greeting card verse after greeting card verse. She even had a copy of Poets Market. Being that she did not have a computer. She would submit via the postal service on index cards. She simply had that creative knack. She just knew it. However, she did get reject letter after reject letter, telling her to keep submitting.

Money was tight. She became an Avon lady. As she did not have vehicle, pedaling brochures was tough. She did this for eight (8) years but hardly made a dime.

At the same time, she volunteered as a writer for a small religious newspaper. However, although a good deed and a way to be creative, money needed to be earned.

Things started to look up. Her landlord gave her a laptop. She was able to move to a new location with Wi-Fi.

At first, you know, the survey websites that promise you either a ton of money or a ton of gift cards was looked into. This avenue was just not feasible. Only one survey website was really worth the time.

She did finally find an opportunity to be a chief editor of four (4) websites from scratch. Most of the other chief editors did so as a hobby though as opposed to being a full-time job. Twice the work and not even half the pay of a regular minimum wage job. But, to this day, she hangs on to these websites as to not forget who was there and still is there when she had nothing.

Tutoring jobs are the rage. A friend even suggested tutoring. Such a job usually says how easy. She looked into tutoring, but felt not smart enough. She did not want to already feel defeated before even attempting a job.

Alas! An online womens’ magazine hired her as a contributing writer. This job lasted until folding and owing her over $200.00 at the same time. The magazine re-opened, but with only retaining a few of the same writers. There were many hard feelings.

She then got hired as a book reviewer. This opportunity lasted 6 months. Editors gave conflicting stories on a certain book review. One editor stated the review was impressive. The other stated her grammar was not good enough. She was let go. Her heart was broke.

Scouring over work from home job boards were a job in itself. She then looked over profiles on LinkedIn thinking to herself that there had to be a job in the job smorgasboard for her also. Low and behold, there was Vocal.media on a profile! She said to herself that she could do that too! She submitted her first article. So far, her and this new venture have been married happily ever after. Well, OK.. They are still on their honeymoon! She may even get a tip from this new found husband!

This is just a little article about the side hustles available to the struggling writer. You might fit one opportunity or all opportunities. You cannot give up.

You know that lady I have been talking about? She is me.
