8 Ways to Overcome Overthinking

As outcome, our ability to think critically and creatively too begins to ruin slowly

In the last article, we have known about the state which we can consider as overthinking. The causes explained there were taken from my real experiences and some searches on Google. Overthinking is something fed by us. If we don’t feed it and turn our attention back then it’s not there to bother us. Now, let’s continue to 8 ways to overcome overthinking.

Catch yourself overthinking

If you want to kill it, you have to catch it first. Catch yourself whenever you overthink. For this you have to practice to be alert. When the mind is full with thoughts, your control can be weakened. And being alert and aware from time to time would be a good option.

But that’s not what I suggest. I suggest taking out some amount of time(5 min initially) and investing it in alertness. You can relate it to spiritual practice, and it’s obvious so.

Dis-invest your time

To overcome it, we have to feed it lesser and dis-invest time too. Now we are feeding it with thinking, worrying, and tensioning. Suppose we understand this process is useless and start to dis-invest our time. Let me be a bit clear.

Dis-investing means shifting our attention and focus at one work. It can be mental but it should be physical for better results. We can do it for short time. Like, If one person is overthinking, and the moment he catches himself and knows, he will go to exercise or shift his focus to other things.

Use 5-second rule

Somewhere I read of the 5-second rule. You can include that here. Needed things are you must be honest and ready to change things. To get rid of this problem, you have to exit the source of Overthinking too. The source is your involvement in this. So, whenever you catch yourself overthinking, start to count 5–4–3–2–1, and then get involved in any physical activity.

Follow the facts not thoughts

It’s quite true that overthinkers are driven by their thoughts. But a person should know that his thoughts are not facts. He must observe and follow his factual condition.

Because facts lead us to go straight while thoughts hack out our focus. As outcome our ability to think critically and creatively too begins to ruin slowly.

If we observe and analyze our facts and work accordingly, our mental condition will highten up because of our investment in several meaningful activities. These activities can be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual depending upon our condition.

Balance physicality and Mentality

It has been seen that Overthinker’s physical condition is also not uplifted to a higher level. Most of the time they feel low. Of course, that is because of their overthinking.

But another reason is not fairly using the body they have. Our body should be tensed up with activities and involvements and if we are able to do so, positive outcomes will come up.

The best method to make the balance is by practicing yoga. Some Asanas (Yoga Postures) and Pranayamas (breathing practices) which you can practice easily will be good options.

6. Break uncertainties- Overthinkers have the fear of losing. Despite that, they do not want to come on the ground but think of all sorts of possibilities. They may have some goals which they wanted to achieve but some obstacles stopped them.

For that, one must find his goal which is sweet and close to heart, and forward in the direction of achieving that. Physical and impactful decisions are needed, otherwise, you were kept eating the fruits in your head.

Change your daily patterns

If you are an overthinker then your daily life must be going in certain patterns. These patterns need to be changed or replaced. Well, you should start with small steps.

Try changing your place to sleep. Do one more round of walk this dawn. Enjoy the tea/coffee on the roof watching the sunset. Look at the sky, can you find its anyone end. Or do read poetry in the morning instead of today’s newspaper.

Traveling to a long trip(5 days or more) to any natural or historical destination can be a brilliant idea. Search for and visit these places. Do fresh your mind with new sights and expand the involvement in offline physicality.

Meditation

I was confused why should I include it here. And I found the sufficient reason. We could have read about the miracles of meditation but that’s other stories.

Meditation means that the person is having a state of mindfulness and awareness. In such state he has no tension in his head,, his energies move like this. The Important fact is that meditation makes a person more aware and conscious. His ability to see and analyze things is changed, dramatically. Also makes him receptive, calm, and stable. If you want to practice meditation, you must go to a genuine Guru/Teacher and express your need to practice it.

Conclusion

Overthinking isn’t any disease. It’s one’s mental process only, gone out of hand. And, instead of being capable of managing it, you are boosting it up. Up-written sections were some ways to overcome it.
