“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking “-said Marcus Aurelius
Happiness is a subject that has been the central interest of countless philosophers, scientists, psychologists, and even economists over the centuries.
But what is it exactly?
Is it a feeling?
A state of mind?
A choice?
Although everyone has a different definition of what it means to be happy, it’s an important element in our lives; that much is certain.
And while the pursuit of happiness is a deeply personal journey,
Having a healthy mindset and being happy is not just about getting through the day; it’s about creating a life you want to live and love for as long as possible.
Even if you’ve had a challenging day, there is always something that will make your spirits lift again.
Even if you don’t feel like it, there is much to be happy about. Even when everything feels bleak, there are plenty of things to be grateful for.
Even when it feels like the world is against you, people still love you and root for you. Even when times are tough, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
So let's see what are the handful tips to lead a healthy and happy life.
Let's dive in.
1. Start Small
Let’s face it, we have all got so much to do every single day that we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves.
Self-care is not about indulging or pampering yourself, it’s about taking responsibility for your own well-being.
Self-care is about prioritizing, making time for the things that are important but that we don’t always have the energy or mental capacity to do.
You might think that adding a few more things to your to-do list is not going to help.
However, if you prioritize yourself and what is important, you will find that the load becomes much lighter and easier to handle.
2. Be Kind to Yourself
As you’re trying to improve your health and happiness, it’s important to be kind to yourself.
You don’t need to push yourself to do more, better or different. You don’t need to take on other people’s problems or expectations.
At the end of the day, you are the only person who knows exactly what you need to do to be happy.
It can be so easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. You might see someone who is super fit and want to be like that but not realize that they’ve been working out for years.
You might see someone who has their finances in order and want to be like that but does not realize that they’ve been saving their money for years.
You might see someone who is happy and want to be like that but not realize that they’ve been working through their problems for years.
You might see someone who has a positive outlook on life and want to be like that but not realize that they’ve been dealing with their emotions for years.
You might see someone who is confident and want to be like that but not realize that they’ve been working on their self-esteem for years.
3. Be Grateful
Being happy isn’t about finding some amazing new thing in your life or having everything go exactly the way that you want it to.
When you are grateful for the things that you already have, when you appreciate what you have right now, you will find that you are a lot more content with your life.
Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you” at the end of a dinner table. It’s a way of thinking that puts you in a much more optimistic state of mind.
When you’re grateful for the things in your life, you’ll find that you are much more likely to appreciate yourself and the people around you.
4. Move More
As we’ve said before, you don’t need to push yourself to do more, better or different.
You can start small by adding a little bit of movement to your day. You don’t have to go to the gym, you don’t have to join a sports team, you don’t have to train for a marathon.
You can take a walk outside, you can do a few stretches while you’re watching TV, you can take the stairs instead of the elevator.
There are so many simple ways you can add movement to your day. And when you start adding it, you’ll find that it gets easier and easier to do.
5. Take Care of Your Mental Health
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
It doesn’t matter if you are the fittest person in the world, if you aren’t mentally healthy you aren’t going to be able to enjoy your life to the fullest.
You have to take care of your mind just as you have to take care of your body.
Taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to mean visiting a therapist or taking medication.
What works for one person may not work for you. There are so many different things you can do to improve your mental health.
Find what works for you and you’ll find that you are in a much better place to take on the world.
6. Take Care of Your Body
People who are physically fit and healthy are happier than people who are not.
I usually do yoga daily, as it improves my mental stress and overthinking.
You take care of your body by eating healthy, balanced meals, getting a good amount of sleep, and doing a few simple exercises every week.
You don’t have to be a fitness guru to care for your body. All you have to do is do what’s right for you.
You don’t have to be super strict about it. You don’t have to do everything perfectly every day.
But you have to make an effort to do the things that will improve your health.
