5 Ways to Be Kind and Loving

How To Be More Kind And Loving

By Berina KaricPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

We all need someone who is kind to us, but also we have to learn to be like that, as well. Kindness does not mean to be weak. It means to be nice, generous and caring about others. One of the most important things in life is to learn how to love, because each person deserves it.

Let's see 5 ways on how you can show kindness and love for others:

1. Actively listen

2. Don't judge

3. Be generous with your time/money

4. Go out of the way for people when you can (e.g.: giving up your seat on public transit)

5. Show appreciation

1. Actively listen when someone is speaking to you

One of the most important things you can do to show love and kindness is to be an active listener. By actively listening, not only are you showing someone that you care enough to stop what you're doing (watching TV, tidying up your apartment) in order to spend time with them, but also that they have your undivided attention. However, there are some people who have trouble with this because they think that by being "silent" or not saying much of anything, the other person will feel uncomfortable enough to just put a period on what it is they're trying to say and abruptly end the conversation (this does not work for everyone).

2. Don't judge

One of the most loving things you can do for someone is offering them your support, not criticism. If you have a friend or family member who has just gone through something difficult or traumatic, whether it be the passing of a loved one, unemployment, financial setbacks, illness...etc., don't criticize their choices - even if you think they're wrong. Keep in mind that this person may be extremely vulnerable and emotionally compromised, so although your best intentions are coming from a place of love, the last thing they need is to feel judged by someone they care about.

3. Be generous with your time/money

Love is not just defined by how much you care for someone, but also by how much of yourself you give to them when they need it most. It doesn't matter if you only have $5 in your pocket - what matters is that $5 can make all the difference in someone's life at that moment.

4. Be accepting

If you want to show someone that you love them, the best thing you can do is show them acceptance no matter what. This means respecting their beliefs (or lack thereof), not calling them out for their mistakes, and not judging them for what they do with their lives.

5. Be patient

Sometimes love means letting someone go through things on their own even when your help would make a difference in that moment. The best thing you can do for someone who needs support, is be patience and wait for them to come to you.

The more patient and understanding you are, the more likely it'll be that someone will open up to you and feel comfortable enough to take your helpful advice. Don't forget, maybe it is you who will need same help, and if that is the case, someone will be there for you too.
