5 Ways to Be a Happier Person Today

Happiness, that's the goal right, not everyone is going to get rich, not everyone is going to be famous, but apparently everyone can be happy. And when you're a kid, you think happiness is something that just happens, it comes to you. But that's so wrong, happiness doesn't just happen, not in adult life. It's like a snowman, you have to roll it around and gather more happiness, until it's finished, then you have to avoid the raindrops of misery and the searing heat of reality to avoid losing your snowman of happiness.

But how can you be happy in a world full of constant violence, war, and hatred? It's not easy, but you can find your snowman.

1. Stay out of the comments section.

It doesn't matter what site it is, just stay out of the comment section. It's a place for small minded cowards to spew their hatred from the safety of their cozy little bubbles. It's got more trolls than Dreamworks and it will only make you feel angry and disappointed in the majority of the human race.

Sure, there are a few decent people fighting the good fight and trying to hold back the river, but they are fighting a losing battle. You don't need to know what other people think, it doesn't matter, it matters what you think and how you feel.

2. Accept the stupid stuff you can't control.

As nice as it would be, you can't control the world, or the people in it. Letting go of the illusion that you can control anything is one way to make yourself happier. Don't ever stop trying to make a difference, but stop trying to control things. You have to face the fact that some people are just d***s and bad things happen to good people. It's not nice, but that is just how it is, pining for what should be will mean that you're unhappy for the rest of your life.

3. Be nice.

If you want to be happy and make the world a nicer place, be nice! I know it sounds like a cliche, but "Be the change you want to see" really is true. Being a nice person and doing nice things will make you feel so much better and much happier. And don't wait, do something nice for someone today and see how much happier you feel. Start as big or as small as you like, it can be something as small as a compliment to someone to lift their spirits. You might not get to see the difference, but trust me, it is there.

4. A Pet

Pets are great, they are just like little besties who can't speak and just love you so freaking much! They are clinically proven to lower stress levels and make people happier. So if you can, get yourself any kind of pet, even a pet you can't touch, like a fish can help, studies have shown that giving love to something makes people happier. So whatever pet you can get, get one!

5. Release your inner child.

Having an inner child is a great way to help deal with the death and destruction that goes on in the world. It might seem fickle or shallow, but whatever helps you get through another day. Do something you used to do when you were a kid, whenever I feel really down and unhappy, I like to watch The Thin Blue Line on YouTube, it takes me back to when I was a kid watching it and for some reason I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen.

My point is, take yourself back to the good parts of childhood and relive them.

Take care of your mental health.

Being happy doesn't come naturally to everyone, and if you suffer with mental health problems then getting them under control should be a priority for you. Don't ever let anyone shame you for having them or for taking your medication. I take mine every single day and probably will for the rest of my life, and there is no shame in that.
