The world has changed drastically in the last decade. With a booming population and advances in technology, it's more important than ever to know how to change with the times. Learning is not only for children. It's for everyone who needs an edge, no matter what their age or profession. Lifelong learners have powerful habits to maintain a competitive advantage over those who don't learn new things on their own time.

Let's take a look at five of these habits.

1. Find a mentor

There's a reason for the old saying that it takes 10,000 hours to master something. The more you practice, the quicker you'll learn. Becoming a master at anything takes time, and studies show that people with mentors learn faster than those who don't. This fact is accurate no matter what the subject may be. A mentor will teach you how to learn in the most accessible and most efficient manner. They will also teach you essential information for your specific field that you wouldn't be able to get by just reading books all day. Lifelong learners seek out a mentor because they know how much more helpful one is than any other resource.

2. Keep an open mind

With so much information out there, it can be challenging to separate the wheat from the chaff. Discernment is essential when consuming new knowledge because not everything you read will be accurate or reliable. Lifelong learners know how to separate what they've learned into two categories: facts and opinions. Opinions are what allow them to come to their conclusions about things they've learned. It's the furthest thing from being close-minded. Open minds are always looking for new information and take it into account instead of dismissing it instantly.

3. Be curious about everything and anything

The above is a habit built into lifelong learners. They're constantly looking for new information and never stop learning. If there's something new to learn, they'll know about it first hand and will find out as much as they can before anyone else does. Lifelong learners look for things they don't understand and then do their best to figure them out. This curiosity allows them to be the first to find solutions when problems arise in their field. It also helps them to be more well-rounded individuals with a wide variety of interests.

4. Read more than you think you should

Lifelong learners know how essential reading is to their success. They spend a lot of time reading and making sure they're reading books relevant to their fields. They don't waste time on leisure reading, though this can be fun as well. Instead, they read for information on the industry to become more knowledgeable about what they do. This statement doesn't mean that you should only read about your field, though. Lifelong learners always keep up with current events, economics, technology, and other things to stay as well-rounded as possible.

5. Make time for self-care every day; it’s essential!

Learning new things takes time, which means that you'll have to make time for it. This scenario is why lifelong learners always find time for their hobbies and other interests. It's a fun way to learn, and they never stop wanting to try something new every day.

As mentioned before, lifelong learners don't waste time leisurely reading because most of them spend time reading in their fields. This situation means they'll have to schedule this in advance and make sure it happens every day or nearly every day. You should start by reading a little bit every night and see where it takes you.

Lifelong learners know how important self-care is because it helps them feel good about themselves and their accomplishments. They know how to balance their workload and still take the time to do things for themselves to make them happier at work.

Don't forget to pamper yourself every day, too!

So there you have it! You now have five powerful habits that will help you be a lifelong learner. Remember to keep an open mind, read more than you think you should, be curious about everything and anything, make time for self-care, and learn to say no!

These habits will help you to achieve your goals, stay motivated and happy during the process, and most importantly, enjoy learning.

Sometimes lifelong learners get overwhelmed with all the things they have to learn. That's why it's good to take it one step at a time! Start by making a list of what you want to know about, and then choose one focus.

It doesn't have to be complicated or scary; lifelong learners know just how valuable learning is and how rewarding it feels when you're able to learn something new.

The best part? It only gets easier as you go along!
