Gallstones can prove to be as serious as they sound. Such diseases have significant morbidity and mortality associated with them worldwide. The incidence of Gallstone related diseases has been on the rise in the past decade. Although there may not be any fixed set of signs and symptoms for gallstone related diseases, this article will provide you with an overview of their origin and some home remedies to help you get better.

What Are Gallstones?

The gallbladder is a small organ below the liver in the upper right abdomen. It stores the bile juice that helps indigestion. Most gallstones form when there is too much cholesterol in the bile.

● According to Harvard Health publications, 80% of gallstones are formed due to cholesterol

● Your gallbladder needs to empty its bile to be healthy and function properly

● If it fails to empty the bile content, the bile becomes over concentrated, which causes the formation of stones

Signs And Symptoms of Gallstones -

Now that we know how gallstones are caused, here are the various signs that can help you diagnose this health condition

The signs and symptoms of gallstones can vary based on the size of the stone. Most of the gallstones don't cause any symptoms, however, if there is a stone blocking your duct, the following signs may appear

● Pain: Gallstones can lead to pain in the upper right abdomen. You may start to have gallbladder pain from time to time when you eat foods that are high in fat. Though this pain doesn't last for hours, it is one of the main symptoms of gallstones. This pain may typically last for 15 minutes

● Jaundice: You can get jaundice if a gallstone passes out of the gallbladder into the bile duct and blocks the flow of bile. Yellowing of skin and eyes are the symptoms of jaundice

● Associated pain in the right shoulder: When your gallbladder is inflamed and swollen, it irritates your phrenic nerve. This nerve stretches from your abdomen to your chest and into your neck. Each time you eat a fatty meal, it aggravates your nerve and causes referred pain in your right shoulder blade

● Nausea and vomiting: Indigestion is a common sign and symptom of gallstone. Due to the increased bile content, you lose your appetite. This Indigestion leads to nausea and vomiting when you eat heavy foods

● Disturbed bowel movements: Gallbladder issues often lead to change in digestion and disturb the bowel movements. Unexplained and frequent diarrhea can be a sign and symptom of gallstones

● Urinal infections: If bile pigment forms in the gallbladder, it can cause urine to turn dark brown

Natural Remedies To Cure Gallstones

Natural treatments can help soothe the gallbladder pain, here are a few dietary changes you can follow to reduce the signs and symptoms of gallstones

● Exercise: Regular physical activity can reduce the cholesterol in your body and prevent the formation of gallstones. Doctors recommend at least 150 min of walk per week, to stay fit and healthy

● Dietary changes: Poor eating habits and consuming foods high in fats and sugar can lead to gallbladder problems. A diet with less fat and more fibre can prevent gallstones. Beverages like peppermint tea and apple cider vinegar contain anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce gallbladder pain and prevent nausea

Though these temporary remedies and heated compress can reduce the signs and symptoms of gallstones, only traditional medication can deteriorate the stones, hence it is extremely important to maintain a proper diet including leafy vegetables, Bananas and magnesium and take proper treatment for this health condition.
