There are many people with dentures that have questions regarding them. Others do not have dentures yet, but may want or need them in the future.

Here are some FAQs and answers on dentures and their uses. Hopefully, they will help with any concerns you may have.

1. How do dentures feel when wearing them?

At first, it may take a couple of weeks to get used to wearing dentures, especially if it’s your first time. Just like anything, after practice and adaptation, dentures will feel normal. Your muscles learn to keep them in place, which might make them feel loose until that is achieved.

2. What will my dentures look like?

Custom dentures are made to resemble your natural dentition. We will make them according to your goals and needs. A shade guide is used for the color of the teeth and gums. You can choose the size and shape of the teeth as well. Bringing in old pictures of yourself can help restore your natural smile. You can also bring in pictures of people’s smile you would like to resemble. When wearing dentures, it is tough, even for a professional, to notice the difference.

3. What is the difference of immediate custom dentures and custom dentures?

Immediate dentures are made while you still have your teeth intact and are not placed until the day of the surgical removal of your teeth. Your gums are healing while you wear your dentures. The dentures will have to be relined after the healing process has ended due to the change in gum shape.

For the first 24 hours, you must not remove the denture. When they are inserted, they act almost like a plaster and will help to control the bleeding and cause a little discomfort. Some swelling will occur after your teeth are extracted, and to keep the swelling to a minimum, you can hold an ice pack to your mouth. You can check out the list of orthodontists in Dubai.

After the first day, you should remove them four or five times a day and rinse your mouth with warm saltwater. If you want to, you can sleep with the dentures in. However, it is essential to keep the dentures as clean as possible. This will reduce the risk of you developing any complications.

Custom dentures are made after you have had the surgical removal, and the healing process has ended. This may take a few months after the removal. This is the best option for optimal fit and minimal adjustments.

4. What effect will dentures have on my eating and speaking habits?

Custom dentures are made from a custom tray that aids in the best fit possible for your mouth. Regular, conventional dentures are a one-size-fits-all type of fit. This process does not use a custom tray to make the denture. With custom dentures, the function should be achieved with optimal results. Eating and speaking will be back to normal after the first initial weeks of getting used to your dentures. It takes some practice to function with them in. You can start with softer foods cut up in smaller pieces. Chew slowly and focus on using both sides of your mouth. Practice speaking with your dentures in. Speaking out loud with difficult words will help.

5. How do I care for my dentures?

Dentures should be handled with care not to drop them. They may fracture or break when handled roughly. They should be brushed daily with a soft-bristled denture brush to remove food particles and bacteria. When shopping for a toothbrush, you can look for the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. There are denture cleaners marked with the American Dental Association seal of approval you may use. Regular hand or dish soap works well, too. Don’t forget to brush your gums as well to remove any bacteria and to stimulate them. When not worn, store dentures out of reach of small children and pets in a denture cleanser, soaking solution or water. Do not allow them to dry out.
