Introducing, Y. Kerry Sara.

My name is Kerry Sara.
I am a freelance writer and certified yoga instructor (RYT, 200 Hours). I write about international politics, contemporary culture, fitness, mental health, and wellness.
My formal education informs my fitness and yoga practices. I received my undergraduate degree in social science - with a minor in history from the University @ Buffalo in 2004.
When I practice yoga, martial arts, or any other physical exercise, I try to apply my academic training as a social scientist. But, by extension, I also tend to focus on how the natural sciences impact my fitness practice. So, for example, I pay particular attention to the force of gravity, physical leverage, and physics principles – even though I am not a natural scientist.
By studying what happens to my body when I engage in systematic physical activity, I hope to alleviate my anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and solve other problems related to ill health.
I have effectively managed my social anxiety and alleviated PTSD and severe depression problems by pursuing academic knowledge and physical fitness.
In 2009, I began to travel across America and drop in on yoga studios in various U.S. cities. In 2011 I visited Las Vegas. During my trip to “Sin City,” I briefly trained in yoga and dance with several teachers who were professional dancers or showgirl performers.
After about three months, I moved on to visit and train in other cities. However, there was something about the teaching techniques of the dancers and performers in “Sin City” that made me wish that I was still training in Las Vegas.
I traveled back to Las Vegas in February of 2013, and I did most of my training there until 2018. My fitness practice and education level have given me positive tools, information, and practical strategies for enhancing my health, physical wellness, and overall quality of my life.
Moreover, my training experiences in Las Vegas have influenced me to share what I have learned over the years with the public.
This Vocal Media blog and vlog will highlight my knowledge of yoga and breathing, training with the professional dancers in Las Vegas, martial arts skills, military training, academic work as a writer, and creative art therapy techniques.
My goal is to provide medical professionals, mental health practitioners, and wellness professionals with practical knowledge, information, and tools to assist people with mental illness, emotional pain, and physical trauma.
Eventually, I hope to create a public health and mental wellness curriculum for psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health counselors, and support staff of the mental health and wellness field.
There are numerous ways to engage in what some wellness practitioners call “self-care." The definition of self-care is to take care of the body, mind, and finances in ways that will prevent you from losing physical health and personal wealth.
Participating in self-care does not have to be complicated. It can be as simple as exercising regularly and making good choices about what you consume for sustenance.
Self-care can also involve putting aside money for health insurance and medical emergencies - while reinforcing those actions by visiting a primary care physician and other medical professionals like dentists and optometrists.
The pay-off for investing time and resources in self-care comes when you realize that such investments can save you money and valuable time by averting future illness.
Follow me on social media! I will add links to all my platforms at the end of this introduction letter.
I appreciate your support!
