Why is gum disease so common and how to deal with it?

Nowadays it is widely believed that proper oral care consists only in regular brushing of your teeth. However, with the help of a toothbrush and toothpaste, we can not solve all problems.

Despite brushing their teeth twice a day, many people report bad breath. It is caused by special bacteria. They usually live deep inside the folds of the oral mucosa, in microcracks in the enamel of the teeth, interdental spaces and gum pockets. The back third of the tongue can also be the source of the smell.

Is it possible to somehow clean the tongue?

Sure. For effective hygiene, it is recommended to use special tongue scrapers. They gently and quickly, within half a minute, remove bacteria and their waste products from the tongue. It is especially important to scrape the back of the tongue with scrapers.

Do not forget about floss, that is, dental floss. They clean those areas of the teeth that are inaccessible to the toothbrush. Indeed, according to research data, 96% of patients in Russia brush their teeth incorrectly, that is, not thoroughly enough. At the same time, 79% brush their teeth only once a day.

But even all modern devices and regular brushing of teeth do not always help to finally cope with bad breath. Because gum disease is often the cause of the problem.

How are they manifested?

We often think that the only serious problem that threatens the oral cavity is caries. This, however, is fundamentally wrong: in addition to caries, there are still many diseases that can lead the oral cavity to a deplorable state. First of all, it is, of course, gum inflammation - periodontitis and gingivitis.

Gums become loose, painful, bleed, and cause bad breath. And this is not only an aesthetic problem. According to the latest data from scientists, inflamed gums increase the risk of angina, bronchitis and even coronary heart disease.

I think few have thought about such a connection. How to be?

To prevent gum disease, it is necessary to visit the dentist at least once every six months. Only a specialist can assess the condition of the gums, see if a person has dental deposits, advise on the best way to get rid of them. In many cases, it is required first to complete a full course of periodontal treatment, and only then to regularly use prophylactic oral care products.

What are the most relevant tips for gum disease?

The doctor always selects an individual set of preventive measures. It may also include taking calcium and vitamin tablets, various physiotherapy techniques.

There are also a number of general recommendations. Proper nutrition plays a significant role in the prevention of dental diseases. On the table, there should also always be fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, which cleanse the oral cavity well and strengthen the gums. Therefore, it is recommended to eat apples, raw carrots and other fruits and vegetables that you can crunch on a daily basis.

Wouldn't the gums immediately start bleeding from solid food?

This recommendation is relevant for those who currently do not have gum disease and other contraindications to eating solid foods. If a person already has gum disease, it is better for him to first undergo treatment with a specialist, and only then engage in their "training" with solid food. It is also important to reduce the amount of cigarettes, tea and coffee, and use an effective rinse aid.

How to choose a mouthwash?

Mouth rinses are usually not remembered in case of gum problems. After all, most of them only mask the unpleasant manifestations of gum disease, just freshening the breath. However, an effective mouthwash not only reduces the appearance of the disease, but also eliminates the cause of gum inflammation. The mouthwash must contain an antiseptic that disinfects the mouth and protects against pathogenic bacteria. The “right” mouthwash has anti-inflammatory, refreshing and antibacterial effects.

Are the rinses completely safe? Or do they have side effects too?

In general, mouth rinses differ in their composition and purpose. Some have very potent antibacterial properties, others mainly create a pleasant smell and good aftertaste. A number of rinse aids can be used immediately, and some must be diluted with water first.

Each of the oral care solutions has its own pros and cons. For example, mouthwash containing chlorhexidine or triclosan is effective in killing bacteria, viruses and fungi. However, they are not recommended to be used for too long, as they can disrupt the natural microflora of the oral cavity.

Maybe then it is better to use medicinal herbs?

You're right. Rinses with anti-inflammatory properties, which contain natural ingredients, act more gently. Treatment-and-prophylactic solutions based on medicinal plants have healing properties and freshen breath well. They can be used for long courses, as they rarely cause side effects.

Herbal rinses are especially needed for people who periodically inflame their gums and for those who suffer from bad breath.

What rinse aid is closest to the ideal?

One of the most optimal rinses in terms of composition is the German drug Parental. It is a concentrate containing a complex of medicinal oils (sage, clove, mint), thymol, eugenol and a number of other components.

Parental quickly eliminates bad breath and, with regular use, prevents inflammation of the gums and oral mucosa. Unlike many other rinse aids, it works very gently and is also as economical as possible. Parontal does not disturb the microflora of the oral cavity, but at the same time protects teeth and gums from harmful bacteria.

The combined use of Parental and dental floss allows you to remove bacteria from the most inaccessible places in the oral cavity. It perfectly eliminates bad breath and, with regular use, prevents inflammation in the oral cavity.

How to use Parental correctly?

Usually the mouthwash is used twice a day, morning and evening after brushing your teeth. To prepare a rinse solution, you need to dilute 15-30 drops of the concentrate in 1/3 cup of moderately warm water.

Regular care with Parental Concentrate will help keep your gums and teeth healthy and beautiful!
