Passionfruit has never been the fruit I knew much about. Outside of apples, bananas, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, and oranges, I didn't know many other fruits when I was growing up.

Bettering my craft in the kitchen has made it impossible to ignore the exotic purple fruit.

My disinterest in wanting to explore more about the fruit came from the soft pulp inside with many seeds and the hard rind - I think I'll pass.

Little did I know, passionfruit is a flowering vine. Also known as Passiflora, is grown in warm climates such as South America, Australia, South Africa, and India.

Passionfruit is PACKED with antioxidants and minerals!

Adding passionfruit to your healthy lifestyle is definitely an investment to consider. Antioxidants are great for repairing cell damage and much more.

Passionfruit is packed with Vitamin A is great for glowing skin, eye vision, and positive immunity.

Vitamin C is found in passionfruit as well, which fights free radicals and cell damage. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation and cardiovascular diseases, like Alzheimer's disease and heart disease.

The low-calorie fruit is rich in potassium, which helps decreases blood pressure. It's also rich in phosphorus which can prevent osteoporosis.

Studies show antioxidants better blood flow and nervous system.

You can enjoy passionfruit and it's tart flavor while cryptoxanthin and carotenes strengthen the immune system and combat flu and common cold.

Passionfruit is rich in carotenoids and various polyphenols.

Also known as granadilla, passionfruit is richer than other tropical fruits like banana, mango, and pineapple.

Polyphenols are plant compounds that can reduce chronic inflammation.

Passionfruit is rich in piceatannol. Piceatannol is a polyphenol compound that can improve insulin insensitivity in obese men. Foods rich in piceatannol can reduce Type 2 diabetes.

Piceatannol compounds found in passionfruit can eliminate colorectal cancer cells.

The purple fruit contains chrysin. Chrysin a compound found in passionfruit that carries anti-cancer activities.

As one who suffers from insomnia and anxiety, my ears perked and eyes popped when I learned passionfruit could help!

Passionfruit contains harman, a sedative property that aids in sleep for ones who deal with restlessness and insomnia.

I was shocked to explore the low glycemic index fruit contains a compound called Scirpusin B. Scirpusin B has vasorelaxant properties that can relax blood vessels and promote blood circulation.

Alternatively known as maracuya, potassium, and folate found in passionfruit promote blood flow and memory.

I think its awesome magnesium found in passionfruit can minimize stress and anxiety.

Where and how to add passionfruit to your diet.

You can grow passionfruit twice a year.

In the spring, it takes six months to grow and harvest. During the autumn, it takes twelve months to grow and harvest.

Feel free to visit your local international market or farmer's market to shop freshly picked passionfruit for your salads, parfaits, and creative food dishes.

Note that only pulp and seeds are fine to eat. Feel free to add to smoothies, salads, dips, and more!

How do you incorporate passionfruit into your diet?

I'm learning how to bake and cook with passionfruit. I've tried passionfruit seeds as a garnish atop my salads - which is pretty good!
