Being a parent is hard work. There are so many decisions that have to be made in split seconds. Everything that you decide for them could have an effect on them later on in life, and that can be stressful to think about! One thing that parents often find themselves trying to figure out is what kind of products to bring into their homes. Cleaning products, medicines, etc. all have to be decided upon. What if I told you that there are natural products out there that can take the guessing game out of “Is this good for my child?” Essential oils are pure and natural and have many uses that can be beneficial to your children.

Health

To begin, always remember that when using essential oils around children, they need to be diluted with a carrier oil. Coconut Oil is a great oil to use! For children under two, it is one drop of oil to 4 tsp of carrier oil.

Frankincense is great for immune support, soothing cuts, and helping bruises heal faster. It is great to keep on hand if you have a little daredevil on your hands! One of the most popular essential oils, Lavender, is also kid safe! It can be used to help promote better sleep, it can help heal bug bites, and it can ease the pain of a sunburn.

Another great oil for kids to use is black pepper. It is said to help soothe achy muscles. This is great to keep on hand for after a long sports games, or even to help sore muscles due to an illness.

Cleaning

Children are known to put everything in their mouths. No matter how well you watch them, they will always get into something that they aren’t supposed to. That is why it is so important to be picky about what chemicals that you keep in your house. Many household cleaners contain harmful chemicals that should never be used around a child. Luckily, essential oils are great household cleaners and have multiple uses.

It is always recommended to dilute your oils when cleaning. A few drops can go a long way! My favorite thing to do is to pick up a cheap spray bottle from the dollar store. Mix a few drops of oil with water and I’m ready to go! My favorite oil for cleaning has to be lemon.

Lemon essential oil not only smells fantastic, but it cleans in many different ways. It is great at cleaning grease and other sticky kitchen messes. It is also an antiviral and eliminates harmful bacteria. I grab it first when cleaning up my kitchen countertops. Tea tree oil is another great oil to clean with. Tea tree is an antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral! This makes it the perfect cleaner for the bathroom and kitchen. It can even help get rid of mildew in the shower!

Relaxation

Getting children to wind down for the night can seem like an impossible task sometimes! When you finally manage to get them to sleep, they are tossing and turning all night long. Diffusing oils around the house and in the bedroom can help your little one fall asleep faster and for longer.

The go-to oil for this is lavender. It is tried and true! If you ever find yourself running low on lavender or it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick, try out frankincense. It will help calm your child’s mind so that they can wind down for the night easier.

It is always best to do research on anything before introducing it to your children. After all, they are your most prized gift in the entire world! If you are interested in bringing essential oils into your home, Young Living Essential Oils carries all of the oils mentioned above and they are great quality oils. Many moms out there offer great tips on how to use essential oils safely in your home, and the information is just one google search away!
