5 Unexpected Benefits of Sleeping Naked
Your birthday suit could be your best friend.
There are people who swear that sleeping nude is the only way to go, and until recently I was definitely not one of those people. I was cuddly, snuggly pyjamas and socks in bed kind of person (yes, I wore socks to bed).
But no more!
I'll be honest, I didn't start sleeping nude because of the benefits I'm about to list for you, but they're definitely a small part of the reason why I will be continuing to do so (even in winter).
1) It's better for your skin.
Sleeping nude can actually contribute to healthier, younger looking skin! By letting your body breathe and be free of the many layers it often hides under, you can reduce the risk of skin infections like athletes foot. Better yet, it can keep you looking younger. This is just one side effect of the fact that those who sleep nude have a lower overall body temperature, and regulate their body temperature more effectively.
2) You get better sleep.
When you sleep nude you get a better, deeper sleep for a number of reasons. The first, mentioned above, is that your body begins to regulate its own temperature more effectively and so you will not overheat and become restless. Secondly, the lack of drawstrings, seams, and awkward twists and bunching that is a natural side-effect of wearing pyjamas can cause discomfort, rashes, and even bruising! When you are regulating your temperature well and you're free of restrictive clothing you sleep well. And, of course, you'll wake up feeling, and looking, more refreshed!
3) Improved Sexual Health
Men struggling with fertility should consider sleeping nude! Of course, this isn't a miracle solution but sleeping nude will lead to a lowering in the temperature of your testes. Why is this important? A lower, more natural temperature in this region keeps your sperm healthy and your reproductive organs functioning more effectively.
Ladies will find that sleeping nude can lower the occurrences of yeast infections, too. This is due to the airy, cool conditions; yeast and other bacterias thrive in warm, moist conditions.
4) Your relationship will benefit.
Skin on skin contact is a great way to bond with your partner and maintain a healthy relationship, and sleeping nude is one of the best ways to make sure you get that contact. Cuddling while nude gives you the skin on skin contact that you don't really get during the day; this releases huge amounts of oxytocin, the neurotransmitter that helps you to bond with your spouse or partner, and, let's face it, also increases the chances that you'll have an active sex life.
5) Your mental health can improve.
Sleeping nude can not only maintain your bodily health but can contribute to your mental health as well. How? Sleeping nude aids in your body's regulation of cortisol. Cortisol is an essential, but strange chemical which is related to many bodily functions including our reaction to stressful situations. When you have high levels of cortisol in your body you can be more anxious, more easily stressed, and more depressed as a result of this. Sleeping nude, as we discussed, lowers your body temperature; this is key in regulating cortisol. Better yet, even when you sleep alone sleeping nude can result in increased levels of oxytocin. This chemical helps you to bond with others, of course, but also affects how we feel about ourselves.
There are times when going commando probably isn't best, however; if you're sick, or if it's very cold outside, it may be best to pull on some pjs. I'd recommend a nightdress, ladies, or even a nightshirt for men!
