Buying anything anywhere is expensive. Once I got married, I really realized that reality. Here are some things to buy at the dollar store to save you heaps of money.

  1. Candy: Buying movie theater candy costs like an arm and a leg, but only a dollar at the dollar store, and they have all the candy you love. Mike n' Ikes, sour patch kids, chocolate, etc.
  2. Party Supplies: If you need tissue paper, krinkle paper, bags, napkins, cups, ribbon, wrapping paper, etc. The list goes on. They literally have it all. Instead of your total being $52.63, it'll now be $20.99.
  3. Kitchenware: Ice cube trays, utensils, bowls, plates, holiday dinnerware, etc. These are the things you could be getting for a dollar, but why would you want to buy from an expensive store and spend almost $60 on a plate set, when you can buy something just as good at the dollar store?
  4. Snacks: Going to the local grocery store is where you get all your goods, but if you just went one place more, you could be buying all your kids snacks for just a dollar. Especially if you're a college student and have a budget, you can save tons going here.
  5. Cards: Is it someone's birthday? Are they getting married? All the cards are at this store and they don't disappoint. And you're spending a dollar on the card and the envelope! What a deal!
  6. Seasonal Decorations: Do you want to spruce up your house for the holidays? Just like any store, the dollar store changes with the holidays and seasons. You can buy Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving plates, Christmas decorations, little New Years sparkling cider bottles, summer sand toys, etc. The list keeps going. They have their own aisle just designated for the seasons.
  7. Pregnancy Tests: Have you had a scare and need a quick test to make sure it's yes or no? Well, it's only a dollar. And you can stock up just in case, so you don't have to go to the store every time. They also have more than just pregnancy tests. They have ovulation tests, tampons, pads, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and toilet paper.
  8. Food: They don't have a lot of food, but if you are running low on cash and still need food for the week, they have cereal, soup, pasta, drinks, etc. They are smaller portions than most food, but if you're a poor college student needing food, then you'll probably be set.
  9. Hair accessories: Do you have a lot of girls? Or people who want to play dress up? There are hair accessories galore. From hair ties to hair clips to bandannas, this store has it all. I still use the hair bands I bought from them four years ago! They never go bad.
  10. Tools: They aren't name brand by any means, but they will get the job done if you're wanting to do some changes or crafts in the house. From hammers to measure tapes to flashlights, there is usually a pretty good range at the store.
  11. Office Supplies: Pens, pencils, paper, school supplies, posters, binders, calendars, etc. If you need something for kindergarten all the way up to college students, the dollar store literally has it. I did all my college school supply shopping there this year and literally spent $13. That's it. So if you've been complaining about school shopping, go to the dollar store.
  12. Kid gifts: They have toy cars, stickers, action figures, random toys from all our childhoods to give to your new kids, and many more exciting gifts. If you need a quick gift for your niece or nephew, go here and they literally have everything you need from the gift, the package, and the card.
