Whether you are buying your first home or your furniture is just starting to wear down, buying furniture can be an expensive part of home ownership. It doesn't take long to go through your whole budget when decorating a room (or even a house)!

However, it doesn't have to cost that much to decorate your home. Here are some tips for finding furniture at a decent price.

Check out Facebook, Craigslist, and other similar sites to buy used furniture at a steal! Many people are trying to sell items through Facebook Marketplace, so it might be a good place to start shopping. You could also find plenty of choices through Craigslist.

If you want to get furniture for an even better price, you may want to look into Freecycle.org where you can find furniture for free!

If you aren't in too much of a hurry (or you are looking before you need it), you may be able to find what you are looking for at yard sales, moving sales, and even estate sales. Many people love to have yard sales and moving sales, and these can be a great way to find quality furniture at a really good price. Estate sales can also be a great place to find furniture, especially if the seller is motivated to get rid of the items.

Don't forget your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other secondhand stores. Though secondhand stores don't often have a lot of furniture, there are times when you can walk in and find the perfect piece that your home is missing. Don't be afraid to ask workers when they usually get furniture in, so you know when to stop by again.

Prefer new? Check out stores that offer good prices on furniture. Ashley Furniture HomeStore, IKEA, Overstock, and Pottery Barn are just some of the stores that offer furniture for a decent price. You may even be able to get some good items at Walmart, Target, and Ollies Bargain Outlets.

Keep an eye out for sales and specials. Many furniture stores have sales and specials, allowing you to buy a better piece of furniture at a price that you can afford. Memorial and Veterans Day are two holidays that are often filled with sales of all types. February and August are months when sales can be slower, so you may be able to find some good deals during those months too.

If you can't afford new furniture, try to spruce what you have up. There are many websites filled with tips and ideas about how to update your current furniture. You may be able to put sofa covers over your existing ones, and the improvement will amaze you.

You may also want to look around your furniture. Can you add accent pieces to change the room and make your furniture look better? Will a new rug or light fix the room? What about a new pillow for your couch? Little things can make a big difference.

Buying furniture can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. If you have time to look around, you can find exactly what you want, at a price that you don't mind paying!

You may want to start on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. Yard and moving sales are other great places to find some bargains. Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other secondhand stores may also have furniture for you to look at.

If you want to buy new, you can always look at discount stores like IKEA and Pottery Barn, though you may be able to find what you are looking for at Walmart or Target. If you find something that you love at a more expensive store, you will just have to keep your eyes open for sales. If you can wait a few months, you may be able to afford the perfect piece of furniture when it goes on sale!
