Saving Money

The year 2020 has impacted a lot of people trying to think of ways to save up every cent. A few weeks before 2021, I started to make a plan to save up money and make it into a habit. As of today, which is barely the third month of 2021 I saved about $1500,and I am proud of myself. I am not saying that I'm some money wizard that has all the tips and tricks, I'm just me, who was able to break a bad habit and start a good one. The hardest part is breaking bad habits, and starting new ones that can help you in the long run.

I just want to make this clear, I am not a professional, nor a motivational speaker. I can barely get myself out of bed, so take this as a reminder or advice from someone who finally had her own way of saving.

1. Get a fresh start of having a mind set that you are confident to do this.

Hey, things happen, you don't have to start right away. As long as you have the self awareness that you want to start saving should be a great stepping stone into making a good habit. Take a deep breathe, no distractions, and make a plan. A simple one at first.

2. Think of something of why you are saving up.

Anything really if you think about it. New clothes, shoes, that burrito from that food truck you heard great things about. As long as it's a simple and achievable goal, it's something.

3. Get a notebook and calculate how much you think you can save up.

In between bills and necessities, it's hard to save up when you live check to check. However there are times when things are calm and you are able to save up little at a time. $25 or even $5, it adds up as you remember when you can save. No need to rush it.

4. If you had to choose between paying a bill or saving up. Pay the bill. Saving can wait.

Again, no need to rush it. This is about you making sure you are able to save when you can save. Do not put yourself in a spot you feel uncomfortable. Pay and save later

5. Remember if it ain't bills or anything important you need at home, do not buy it.

Remember why you are doing this. To break bad habits and turn into good ones. Spending money you dont need is spending money you don't have. And last time I checked you can't pay bills with your new shoes.

6.Write down a tiny piece of paper or on your calendar of something to remember to save

Let's be honest, we can forget sometimes. But we shouldn't be discouraged either. Any quote or reminder will help you just need a push.

7.If you forgot or it slipped out of your mind, it's ok.

Trust me when I say this, it doesn't happen in one go. It takes several tries to make something into a habit. Trial and error til it's great for you. As long as you are ready to try again, you have no reason to lose any confidence.

The best part about this is that you can do this in any order. But it works when you remind yourself and don't lose hope because you forgot the save that month or stress yourself out. I'm just saying that it's ok, you are your own person. Don't rush it, be patient. Don't lose hope and trust yourself. Take it day by day, step by step. You can do this. Just promise me one thing, take care of yourself, someone loves you for you.
