When sending a package, you naturally want it to arrive intact. This then raises the question of how best to prepare this - The following article informs.

Preparation before shipment

On the market there are a variety of parcel service providers, which can differ significantly in price. Therefore, it is also recommended to compare the different providers. This is especially worthwhile if you often have large parcels picked up, as this can quickly lead to price differences of two euros. The more often you pay this amount too much, the more it will be noticeable in your wallet.

It should also be noted that many providers only make one delivery attempt. With some providers it is tried at least three times and thus then also increases the probability of a successful delivery. If the package still cannot be delivered, then these are taken to the parcel store or a branch.

It is therefore important that the price offers are compared exactly, and the weight and size limits are observed. In addition, the delivery conditions are of great importance.

Correctly completed waybill - a guarantee that the shipment will be delivered to the correct address

The above situation can be described as unlikely, but nevertheless it should not be considered as impossible. An incorrectly filled waybill means that the delivery courier has to search for an authorized person to pick up the parcel, waste time and travel additional kilometers, and thus fail to deliver the parcel on time or simply send it back to the sender. One small mistake can cause a big problem not only for the carrier, but also for the sender and the recipient, prolonging the time of waiting for the courier's arrival. Also, if the wrong house or apartment number is given, the package may end up in a neighbor's house instead of being delivered to the recipient. It may seem like a small problem, but often neighbors do not know each other by name, which makes it difficult to find the recipient. It can also be a big problem if the sender doesn't give their phone number and the recipient's phone number. This means that the courier will certainly not show up at the door of the person sending the package or at the door of the person to whom the package should be delivered. Giving the phone number of the sender and the recipient is extremely important also because it is often difficult to find the given address. Especially when even GPS is not able to locate it. In such cases, the only thing the driver can do is to call the person waiting for him and ask how he can get to the given address. Therefore, when filling out the waybill, always double-check that all information is entered correctly.

Small parcel or package

Before sending a small parcel or a package, it is important to find out exactly what the differences are. Packages are usually cheaper. However, it is often the case that these do not offer tracking such as live Tracking for FedEx. In addition, small Parcels are usually insured only up to a value of 50 euros. However, this often does not correspond to the value of the goods in the parcel. Therefore, in most cases, parcels make more sense, as they offer a tracking number and thus can always be checked exactly where the package is. Up to 500 euros, the parcels are usually insured with most parcel service providers. With some providers it is even up to 750 euros. If the value of the goods is even higher, then an additional insurance can be taken out with most providers. If necessary, a different shipping method may be more appropriate.

Packaging requirements

Unfortunately, it often happens that the packages are not handled very carefully. The parcels slip over conveyor belts or are partially thrown around or into the delivery vehicle. In the delivery vehicle, the parcels often cannot be properly secured. That is why the parcel service providers also state that the parcels must be able to withstand a fall of 80cm. One can only advise to pack the parcels well and therefore safely.

Electronic devices should not or not exclusively be sent in the original packaging, because they are delivered to the dealer on pallets and therefore do not have to be protected so well during delivery to the dealers.

Delivery of parcels

Parcel delivery companies often use the option of substitute delivery. This means, for example, their neighbor. This can then be convenient for both them and the parcel delivery company since you as the recipient do not have to drive to the store and the parcel delivery company has one less parcel in the delivery vehicle. However, your neighbors are not obliged to accept the parcel. But if they do accept a parcel, then they are also under a duty of care. As a neighbor, you should therefore handle it carefully since you have signed for it and are therefore liable.
