We are always eager about getting a new pair of glasses but what about your old ones. You might simply get bored of them or their lenses get damaged. You buy a new one to replace your old prescription glasses.

Or you might simply lose them and find them only after purchasing a new pair. Misplacing glasses is a common occurrence. It’s not just me. Okay.

I can be forgetful about my glasses and end up having three-four glasses. At least I didn’t actually lose any one of them. But then again, what will you do with several of those old glasses.

Reuse

If your glasses are of similar style, then bad news despite the good condition, it will be a waste. You cannot reuse them.

If your glasses are of a different style, match them with your outfit. You can get a Monday look, a Tuesday look…

If you are fashionable, your glasses choices can be enough for your parties or some important occasions. If you know the magic of mix-and-match, you can play around with your look to get a fun vibe or a chic look.

One of my old pair of prescription glasses is a semi-rimmed browline and the latest addition is a tortoiseshell pattern wayfarer. I wear my older pair for important meetings and my new glasses for daily use. I want to look fashionable and outgoing daily. It matches my personality.

Recycle

If you have a similar pair of glasses, you can send them for recycling. If your glasses are plant-based acetate, you can get them recycled with no worries. Your glasses are eco-friendly. If you have plastic eyeglasses, don’t just mix them in your recycle bin for plastics. It will be only wishful thinking that your glasses will get recycled from that magic dustbin.

Plastic eyeglasses are hard to recycle. You will need to search where you can get these glasses recycled. There are many organizations that take your old glasses for recycling. You can send them there. In the UK, you can send your glasses to the nearest Lions Club or Chichester Lions.

Upcycle

Recycling is a hard option for your plastic eyeglasses, you can try upcycling. Upcycling is the process of making different things out of old things. You can be imaginative and convert your old reading glasses pair into some brilliant art masterpieces. You just need to be creative enough and also have enough time to do so.

Reglaze

If your old glasses pair is broken or your prescription changed, you can reglaze glasses. You can get new lenses fitted into your old frames. If your old glasses have a wider frame, you can even get varifocal lenses fitted into them. This will reduce your cost and you can keep using your old frame. Also, you will be contributing to nature by not throwing away your old frames.

Donate

Throwing them is not a good choice, recycling is also a question. You don’t really know if your glasses are being recycled or not. The last thing you want is that your glasses pieces are inside some fishes.

To be a more responsible citizen, you can donate your glasses. There are many charity organizations that collect old glasses to donate to poorer nations. Not everyone is privileged to have eyeglasses. It’s sad but most poor regions don’t have basic eye health facilities.

Giveaway

It will be a waste to donate your blue light glasses. Your glasses will get reglazed in most cases to fit the wearer’s requirement. Your expensive glasses with blue light protection, Uv protection, or anti-glare will be wasted away. You can give away your glasses to your relatives. If your old pair are designer glasses, your relatives will only be happy to take the glasses. You will just have to assure they have a similar prescription for their eyes. If not you can reglaze glasses and then gift them to your nephew, niece, or your cousins.

Sell

Lastly, why not make extra quids with your expensive eyeglasses. You can sell your expensive designer frames on eBay and buy even more expensive glasses with the extra cash.

You can choose any option to deal with your old glasses. As long as you are not throwing away you are not causing any harm to the environment. It can be a single piece of eyeglasses but there are many like you and that piles up to many pieces of eyeglasses. Be responsible with your eyeglasses.
