Introduction

Hello everyone, you’re probably thinking right now, “what do you mean by secrets?” Or “what secrets are you talking about?” Well, I’m here to tell you all about the benefits of Lucid Dreaming, How to Lucid Dream, and how you can even learn a new skill by doing... NOTHING?

What is Lucid Dreaming?

Lucid dreaming is the state of realization that you are currently in a dream. This gains the reader the ability to ‘play god’ and do whatever it is you’d like (and be your inner max from Sharkboy and Lavagirl).

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2005).

What are the benefits of Lucid Dreaming?

Well, I’m glad you asked! Lucid dreaming has been proven to cure fears, make people happier, improve motor skills, exercise muscles and even learning a new skill!

Inception (2010)

Cure Phobias

Phobia (Oxford dictionary).

Phobias are purely mental. All cures for a phobia has the goal of rewriting your brain to process the information of the phobia differently, resulting in the loss of the fear. Due to the fear being psychological, when Lucid Dreaming you can control your phobias and manually rewire your brain to stop fearing the thing in question (for example, spiders).

Boosts your mood

Mood Booster playlist (Spotify).

For the same reasons as curing a phobia, you can also use your Lucid time to get over a grudge, or let out the secret that’s bottled up in your head, or even just to do something fun that you miss doing (especially during the ongoing pandemic). Enjoy yourself, have fun, try something new, whatever you do, it’ll make you happier when you wake up.

Improve Motor-Skills

When being Lucid, you get the time to use your hands as much as you’d like (or as little as you’d like) and help with recovery of lost motor skills in an accident, or to be able to do the tasks you otherwise couldn’t with your hands before.

Exercise Muscles.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Mr. Olympia 1974).

This one isn’t well know or properly tested, but you could theoretically dream about weightlifting and trick your brain into thinking you’re actually lifting the weight. This could cause your muscles to contract and flex, effectively working them out. And the best part is, all you have to do is sleep! However, as I’ve said previously, this one hasn’t properly been proven but is fun to think about!

Learning a New Skill

Limitless (2011).

In field experiments that required people to toss coins into a coffee cup from a distance of two meters, participants who dreamed they practiced the task significantly outperformed those who didn’t, though not quite as well as the participants who actually practiced the coin toss while awake. This means that dreaming about learning the skill can get you almost as far as if you actually practiced! Combine that with actually practicing and you could be the new Ludwig Beethoven, Rodger Federer or Michael Phelps! Get dreaming guys!

Doctor Strange (2016)

How To Lucid Dream

There are multiple ways to Lucid Dream; Some are better than others however, all of them work.

The most common way to Lucid Dream is by reality checks. This means starting a habit of randomly through out the day doing something that will tell you if you’re dreaming or not. These activities usually consist of:

  1. Touching something solid (wall or hand),
  2. checking the time,
  3. reading or
  4. trying to look at your hands

and if you successfully complete the tasks then say “I am awake”.

If you cannot complete these tasks (your hands go through the object, the time changes every time you look at it or you can read or see your hands) then that must mean you’re dreaming.

Conclusion

Lucid dreaming is a powerful tool as well as a fun activity. However, don’t be scared if you do not experience Lucid Dreaming the very first night because it is as hard as it is fun. Once you do Lucid Dream don’t expect this to happen every night, only 1% of the world population Lucid Dream atleast 3 times per week, which makes it that much more rewarding when you do!
