Sometimes we go, go, go, and forget to slow down to make sure we are okay - mentally and physically. Why do we do it? Well, to be quite honest with you, half the time we don't even realize it's happening. The other half is because we get too comfortable in that routine. It's hard to talk about change, but to actually do it is a whole other story. Take a second to reflect on the past week or year, even. Are you where you want to be financially? Are you happy with the people you choose to surround yourself with? When was the last time you did something nice for yourself? Have the choices you have been making helped you grow? Or are you just maintaining? I've spent most of my life maintaining. But lately I've sprouted. From now on all of my choices will choices that help me grow into the person I want to be. I will get where I want to be. And if you want to join me, then keep reading. After a week you will be amazed at how light and motivated you feel. Trust me, you have what it takes.
1. Clear Out Your Bags.
Purses, bookbags, makeup bags, whatever you have. Clean out the trash, receipts, old makeup, crumpled pieces of paper, notes you don't need anymore, etc. Your life is already chaotic, you don't need to add more stress rummaging through your bags for things.
2. Set Goals.
Weekly, monthly, financials, fitness, anything. But make sure they are realistic. Don't go making up crazy numbers, or impossible workouts. Don't be over ambitious. Look at your finances and set goals accordingly. Something that has helped me when planning my budget and setting goals is the 50/30/20 rule.
*The 50-30-20 rule puts 50% of your income toward necessities, like housing and bills. Twenty percent should then go toward financial goals, like paying off debt or saving for retirement. Finally, 30% of your income can be allocated to wants, like dining or entertainment.
3. Deep Clean Your House.
From the closets to the junk drawer. I'm talking cleaning until you are sweating, girl. Clean out the fridge, organize your dressers, do ALL your laundry - clothes off the floor and in the hamper, bed sets, throw rugs, the whole nine. Scrub your bathroom from head to toe. Make your bed. Clean out your pantry. Go off, sis. Go in on that house, show it who the hell is boss.
4. Organize your phone.
Go through your photos and create albums. Delete junk mail. Unsubscribe to majority of your email subscriptions, because let's be honest, we all know we don't even open them, so they're just wasting storage on our phones. Another thing taking up storage is keeping open all those tabs in your safari app, go ahead and delete the ones you don't need. Delete the apps you haven't opened in weeks. I am awful for downloading games and never even opening them. Any songs you constantly skip in your music app? Delete those, and create some playlists to organize your songs a little better- genre, mood, whatever you're feeling. If you have any birthdays this month, appointments, or important dates put them all into your calendar app. I'm the worst when it comes to remembering appointments. My mom keeps track of them for me. Yes... I'm Twenty Three. Yes I still need my mom.
5. Plan ahead, always.
Any birthdays this month? Buy all the birthday cards you need at the beginning of the month. Sit down one day and write them all out. Make to-do lists the night before, as well as lunch for the next day. Making your lunch every day is a HUGE money saving tip, btw. Plan out your workouts- the exercises, what day is leg day or arm day, how long you plan to workout. Budget for the upcoming month. Always be a month ahead. Yes, my mom taught me that.
It truly does not take a lit to eliminate bad habits and simplify your life. Just a bit of self-discipline and dedication. It takes twenty one days to form a habit, just three weeks, then it becomes almost auto-pilot in your brain. You can do anything you want if you just push yourself. So what do you say, let's start together. Starting January 1st of 2020, WE ARE ALL SLOWING DOWN and making choices to promote self growth! 2020 will be our year, okay? Okay.
