How to Organize Your Birthday Party Creatively

Organizing a birthday party is fun. But at the same time, it can be stressful, and worst of all—expensive. Birthday parties can zap your wallet, as you have to spend on the cake, food, decorations, activities, and all. The cost can double, or probably triple, if you will hire an event organizer. Luckily, it is possible (and even more fun) to organize a special and creative birthday party for yourself. Here’s how:

Think differently.

Not all birthdays are celebrated in a huge venue with lots of balloons and treats. Sometimes, the best parties are intimate moments spent with select family and friends. A day out with your family, a homemade cake, a special home cooked dinner, or breakfast in bed with your spouse—these moments are surely going to last.

Choose a theme that you enjoy.

Pick a favorite hobby as a theme for your birthday. Do you enjoy watching football? How about playing golf? Are you a fan of Avengers? With a theme in mind, you can easily pull up decorations, and stuff needed for your party.

Invest a little more on the venue setup.

What makes parties memorable? The venue. It doesn’t matter where you choose to celebrate your birthday—at home, at a hotel, or any other place—what sets a fun and memorable birthday party apart is your setup. Make sure your décor (from the smallest details to major pieces) are in line with your theme. Want to encourage more photo ops, and cool boomerang videos? Dedicate a creative spot with an inflatable tube man where your guests can pose and record.

Pull up a taco bar

Or a beer bar, a coffee station, or a dessert table—whichever you fancy. People love interacting over some pica-pica, a nice drink, or some sweet treats. You can set up a Mimosa bar as well by assembling fresh fruits, delightful juices, and of course—bubbly champagnes.

Don’t forget the games!

Birthday parties are incomplete without fun games. You will find a lot of ideas on Pinterest, and other online sources. Ditch the board games for something that involves moving around and laughing, such as Charades or a Scavenger hunt (you can make an adult version for this). And when you have games, don’t forget the prizes! Some homemade sweets or cupcakes, or handmade craft items are all perfect. If you are not a fan of loud parties, you can still make your celebration special and creative through crafts, and activities like painting or sketching. These are not only engaging, but therapeutic as well! Don’t forget to serve wine to your guest-artists!

Have a cake without a cake.

Cakes are a centerpiece to any birthday celebration. Birthdays are incomplete without them. But you don’t always have to go with what everybody else is doing, and buy or bake yourself a cake. Think about your favorite food, and make it your cake! Chicken? Why not? Prepare a big tray of spicy chicken wings or chops. Chocolates? You know what to do. Donuts? Create a board with hooks and assemble your donuts in there. Whatever you fancy—go for it. Just don’t forget to blow your birthday candles, and make a wish!

Party food is best.

You don’t always have to spend so much on food—which is a major component of any birthday celebration. Regardless of your theme, you can always serve inexpensive party food like nachos with a dipping sauce, mac and cheese, hotdogs, chips and salsa, pasta dishes, etc. Want something even more unique? Ask your guests to bring one special ingredient, and cook a meal together! You’ll never know what dish you could come up with. Whatever it is, it is sure to be epic! Don’t forget the drinks. Ice cold beer, cocktails, or some natural fruit juice are all great for the warm season. Alternately, you can run a contest to see who makes the best party punch.

Turn up the music.

Music is a staple to any event. Without it, your party will be boring no matter how extravagant your event decoration is. Get your playlists ready. And make sure you have nicely working speakers. Speaking of, another fun activity for your birthday is to play your guests' favorite music, and have them sing along. It’s going to be epic!

Conclusion

Organizing your birthday party is possible with a little creativity and resourcefulness. Hopefully, these tips and ideas have given you a great jumpstart to prepare a special, fun, and unique celebration. Regardless of how you want to celebrate your birthday, planning ahead will save you time, energy, and money. Some important factors to consider when organizing your birthday party are the size of your party (the number of your guests), location or venue, theme, entertainment, food, and activities.
