Introduction

Have you ever felt the motivation and ambition to finally start one of your tasks that you've been putting off for quite a while? You start working on that specific thing, but over time you notice that you start losing your rate of productiveness the more you work on it. One of the main reasons for this is that we are generally more reactive than proactive, which means that we tend to wait for a spark, like ambition, to continue working. This is an inefficient way to go about being productive. In this article, I will be listing methods that we should be implementing in our work routines to maximize our productivity.

#1: Planning the Night Before

Creating a schedule or a "to-do" list the night before will not only make everything more organized, but in addition, it will make you ambitious to start your more important tasks earlier in the day. Personally, an organized schedule makes me less overwhelmed so that I can enter a deep-work state during my important work, like writing articles for you guys! You can either make a schedule on paper or a notes app online; choose what is best for you!

#2: Eliminate all Distractions

Distractions like constantly checking your email, your social media, and your phone, in general, are keeping you from being productive in your work. This is why eliminating all distractions to the best of your ability can not only increase your productivity but can also save you from catching up on tasks later in the day. It is as simple as turning off your phone, disabling notifications on your device, and closing other tabs that do not relate to your work. A great tool for blocking websites and apps that are distracting is BlockSite.

#3: Avoiding Multi-Tasking

You may think that doing multiple tasks at once makes you more work-efficient, but in reality, it is the opposite. When you are constantly hopping from task to task, you are making yourself more overwhelmed and stressed because you now think that you should finish all of these tasks at once to feel accomplished. This technique can lead to quicker burnout, which makes you more prone to making mistakes in your tasks. Instead, put your entire focus on one task only. This makes you more motivated to start on another piece of work once you finished that task.

#4: Take Breaks in Between

Implementing breaks in between working is crucial for creating outstanding work. As we take short breaks, we allow our minds to relax from all the information we are putting into our brains. Having a relaxed mind prevents us from being stressed or losing focus when working. After your break is done, you feel more motivated and passionate about continuing your work. Personally, I find that working on something for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break is great for relaxing the mind.

#5: Reward Yourself

After doing that long and unbearable task, it is time to take a break and reward yourself! You deserve to treat yourself after putting extreme effort into completing that task. This could range from listening to your favorite song, a wonderful coffee break, or any other positive rewards. Research shows that providing yourself with a positive reward creates this positive emotion in your brain that makes you more courageous to work hard the next day. In addition, it helps with limiting our biggest enemy, procrastination!
