People tend to think that leadership is only what great men and women do on television or in movies – wars, revolutions, etc. Of course, those situations do require strong leaders who know how to scan a battlefield and give orders at just the right moment; however, there is more to it than that! True leaders don't limit themselves to command-and-control strategies – rather, they seek consensus using diplomacy and encourage cooperation using shared visions and goals.

Leadership is not about being in charge, but it's also more than that! A true leader knows how to get others on board with their vision and goals. They use consensus-building strategies like mediation or negotiation rather than a command-and-control approach for major decisions because they understand what matters most are shared values

Leadership is not just a skill seen in the moments of great men and women; it's also an everyday occurrence. True leaders use negotiation strategies like diplomacy or encouragement with cooperation to achieve shared visions - this makes them more effective!

There are five key practices that will help you become a more effective leader:

1) Make sure your employees understand their roles in the company or organization, and what you expect from them. This is so important for many reasons! First, employees can't perform well if they don't know how to do it. Second, they may try and fail repeatedly because they were given an impossible task; this also wastes time and money. Finally, when employees fail at tasks that should be simple (but aren't), it's much easier to take responsibility yourself than to blame others for not knowing their job better.

2) Try delegating responsibilities whenever possible! Don't try to handle all of the work by yourself during times of high stress and workloads. By passing on some of your responsibilities to others, you'll build camaraderie, improve morale, and let others gain exposure to new challenges.

3) Take the time to get to know your employees on a personal level! It's even better if you get along with them outside of work as well. This will make it easier for you to understand each other in stressful situations; plus, they're more likely to want to help you when needed because they like and trust you.

4) Encourage your employees by building self-esteem and confidence! When people feel good about themselves and their abilities, they perform at higher levels than before (they may also be less likely to quit their jobs). Your employees will especially appreciate it if you:

  • Praise or compliment them for a job well done (it doesn't hurt to tell them 'good job' even when they mess up)
  • Stand by your employees and support them through the good and bad times (you shouldn't always criticize them on their mistakes – rather, find out what happened and how they plan to fix it)
  • Help your people set clear goals that they can work towards. This is also a great way to motivate workers, as they will have something tangible that shows them they're making progress.

5) Be an active listener! Don't just sit there and wait for the employee to stop talking so you can give advice – really listen to what he/she is saying. No one likes to talk to someone who isn't paying attention! The employee will also be more likely to come up with creative ideas if he/she feels like the boss cares about his opinion.

By following these practices, you will become an effective leader in no time! Your employees will feel empowered and encouraged, while your organization or company grows stronger every day. Remember that leadership is not something that should only take place during intense situations; rather, it's a way of life for all leaders!
