It is not much difficult to replace seal, you can easily replace faucet seals with follow these steps and also if you find your kitchen faucet is much older you replace them with new one you can buy matte black pull down kitchen faucet or any other. Follow these easy steps to seals replacement

Turn off the water

  • Before you start disassembling the valve handles, you must shut off the water supply to the dripping tap.
  • Follow the water pipe from the tap to the water meter. There is the shut-off valve (often a vent valve), which makes it possible to turn off the water supply throughout the house.
  • Turn this tap off and vent the water pipe by turning on the mixer tap to be repaired.

Disassemble the valve bonnet

This step concerns mixer taps with separate hot and cold water supply. Single-lever mixers, on the other hand, have interchangeable cartridges and no valve upper parts (see section 5).

  • Rotary handles with valve tops are located on each side of the tap spout: one for cold and one for hot water.
  • If you want the repair to be carried out professionally, you should replace the seals of both valve bonnets.
  • Here are red or blue caps on each handle, which must be carefully removed with a screwdriver with a thin blade (they can also be round covers).
  • The fastening screw of the valve cover (chrome-plated ABS plastic, hides the mechanism) is located under each cap.
  • Hold the twist grip with one hand, remove the screw and pull the grip off.

Now the valve top of the mixer tap is exposed and can be removed with a wrench or water pump pliers.

Remove the seals and valve washers

  • You now hold the valve bonnet in your hand and see the O-rings on the top and the valve disc on the bottom.
  • Use the tip of the screwdriver to remove the O-rings from their seats.
  • The valve disc may be damaged. It guarantees the tightness within the valve seat. To remove it, it is enough to use the tip of the screwdriver. Be careful not to injure yourself.
  • The mechanism of the valve bonnet consists of 2 or 3 disassemblable parts, in which the O-rings are located (which only need to be replaced rarely, but should be checked and possibly greased). Make sure that the mechanism is properly screwed on (otherwise it can cause leaks).
  • A left-hand thread allows access to the O-rings after removing the snap ring.
  • Check all the elements and grease them. Then put them back together.

Install new seals and reassemble the tap

  • Replace the O-ring (s) and screw the mechanism you still hold in your hand tightly together.
  • Now replace the valve disc. Make sure that your contact surface is free of contamination.
  • Before reinstalling the valve bonnet, check the valve seat in the mixer tap. If it is damaged, this can be the reason for the water leak. In this case, use a valve cutter to smooth the damaged surface.
  • Now put the new valve disc in place, grease everything lightly and screw the valve bonnet back onto the mixer tap. Then tighten it well with the wrench.
  • Put the tap handle back on the valve bonnet, tighten the screw and attach the plastic cap.
  • Carry out these steps for the second grip and then test the tightness. The mixer tap must no longer drip.

Check and replace seals on the water outlet

  • A dripping tap can also be due to a leak at the water outlet.
  • To check that your O-rings are in good condition, unscrew and remove the spout using the wrench (use a rag between the wrench and the clamp ring to avoid damaging anything).
  • The O-rings, like the seals of the valve insert, are removed with a screwdriver with a thin blade after their condition has been checked visually.
  • If the sealing rings are worn out, replace them with identical replacement seals before reattaching the casserole.

Replace the cartridge of a single lever mixer

Perhaps you have a single-lever mixer that, as the name suggests, has a lever for hot and cold water. In this case you have to replace the cartridge of the valve, because this contains the seals.

  • You can reach the cartridge by removing the cap under the lever.
  • Use an Allen key to unscrew the lever.
  • Unlock the cartridge holder with a tubular socket wrench.
  • Remove the cartridge from its seat and insert a replacement cartridge of the same model.
  • Reassemble everything and check the tightness.
